I am convinced that a bee swarm is arriving imminently, given the calm sunny weather and this level of activity around the bait box. Don't want to leave my patio and miss the excitement, I love a good swarm.

The answer to this issue turned out to be, take the phone into a repair shop where they will have a superior ph00 screwdriver. They took them all out no problem, no charge. New screen installed. I am off to buy new tools...

Was definitely ash before oak down here, let's see if that does indeed herald a dry summer. (The ash tree in my garden, hanging in there and always full of bird life).

On Friday I went seagrass planting and on Saturday I went on a rockpool recording session and time spent with sea creatures is surely the best antidote to almost anything.

I made it just in time, on my birthday, despite being quite ill. Submitting properly shortly.

For comparison, my cat Pyewacket in repose. It turns out it is very easy to be fooled about size from a distance, with only scrub for size comparison, and with the distortions of atmospherics and phone blur. I could have sworn it was much bigger than it was.

As we watched this creature in the distance, it moved about (see video) and then POUNCED on something, and we watched it apparently having dinner.

Yesterday, walking along a stretch of the Isle of Wight coastal path, largely unbothered by other humans, we saw a large dark shape on the path ahead of us. It was hard to make out at that distance, definitely cat-ish but not quite, and surely too big?

And this is why I keep the waiting room enabled, to save me from repeated failure to change Zoom backgrounds after a D&D game.

Up at 4.30 to go stand in the sea and look at quadrats of seagrass in the rain, and yeah absolutely no regrets even though very damp. Partly for science but mostly for the peaceful views, pottering herons, marine wildlife and chance that a baby cuttlefish will go pootling by like that one time.

On a wild and empty Isle of Wight beach yesterday I looked down at all the stones and thought, "I wonder if I'll finally find the sea urchin fossil I've been hunting for", and bent down to check and there, right there, right then, was this. Thrilling.
