Dark Giant Horsefly (Tabanus sudeticus) seen near my front door in Laois last night, on her back kicking initially, and up correct later on (I was too scared to turn her over!). This is the heaviest fly in Europe.

Mothing in Laois was good this weekend: 34 species but no lifers. I have some nice colourful ones to share but first my highlight: Brown Rustic. It needs the light right to see the subtle patterns. #teammoth

I saw a couple of little Plume moths on my day in The Burrren last week. I reckon it’s Irish Plume, which feeds on Mountain Everlasting and has been recorded in the area. #teammoth
