For today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme by @robcrank68.bsky.social #ButtShots here’s a Meadow Pipit getting into a suitable position. This one was at Bellever, Dartmoor.
Pretty little Eyebright, Euphrasia sp. Fields full of this little flower in Devon Wildlife Trusts Bellever Meadows, Dartmoor #WildflowerHour
A Northern Spinach Moth, Eulithis populata seen at Bellever Tor, Dartmoor. The first one we’ve ever seen! #TeamMoth
This is Ectophasia crassipennis, a little tachinid fly with pretty wings and a new one for us! Seen at Bolberry Down, South Devon. #FlyDay
Three Blue Tits having a bath for @robcrank68.bsky.social ’s #BirdOfTheDay theme #BathTime 🪶
Oops wrong way!! 🤣 Broad Centurion Soldier Fly meets Rose Chafer. #InsectThursday
From the archives for @alan678.bsky.social ’s #BirdOfTheDay theme #Lifer a Steppe Grey Shrike seen in Cornwall last year. I just realised this is the last Lifer we’ve seen! Must get out more!! #Birds 🪶
Three gorgeous Rose Chafers, Cetonia aurata, on pretty pink wild roses. Bolberry Down, South Devon. 😍🪲💚🩷 #WildWebsWednesday #Beetles #Coleoptera
We saw lots of these tiny black Bees on Bolberry Down, South Devon. If I’ve got the ID right they turned out to be Small Shaggy Bees, Panurgus calcaratus, feeding mostly on Hawkweed flowers. #WildWebsWednesday
Micro Moth Gypsonoma dealbana (I think!) with lovely markings when seen up close! #TeamMoth #MothsMatter
Lots of these dainty little mushrooms on Dartmoor. Popping up everywhere there are Sheep 💩! #MushroomMonday
I think this is Rock Samphire, Crithmum maritimum, growing on the cliff at Mothercombe, South Devon and looking very attractive even though it’s not quite in flower! #WildflowerHour
The very tiny, very pretty micro moth Argolamprotes micella (also called Bramble Bronze) seen on one of our walks on the fringes of Dartmoor. Only the second time we’ve seen one. (Happy to be corrected if ID is wrong!!) #TeamMoth #MothsMatter
A male Beautiful Demoiselle - one of the jewels of the insect world - by the Butter Brook on Dartmoor. #Insects
A gorgeous Golden-ringed Dragonfly, Cordulegaster boltonii, on Dartmoor. We saw plenty of them around the edges of the Moor, mostly around the Gorse and Bracken. #InsectThursday
A male Keeled Skimmer (Orthetrum coerulescens) on Dartmoor recently. Nice to see these on the moor, one of the few places we get to see them.
Round-leaved Sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) along the boggy edges of the Butter Brook on Dartmoor. This one hasn’t caught much yet!
All over Dartmoor the week before last we saw these sparkling Spider’s webs. When the rain stopped the sunshine turned the raindrops caught in the webs into diamonds!
Tenthredo livida Sawfly (as far as I can tell- happy to be corrected) We saw several of these rather handsome Sawflies around Dartmoor over the last couple of weeks.
A Pied Hoverfly, Scaeva pyrastri, on Cotton Lavender in the garden of our holiday cottage last week. Just in time for the last day of #InsectWeek #PollinatorWeek and also one for #SundayYellow ! (I love the little curly edges to the flowers! 💛)
A Meadow Pipit with what looks like a Beetle about to be taken to its nestlings for @robcrank68.bsky.social ’s #BirdOfTheDay themes - it’s a twofer! #LittleBrownBirds and #Food
Plant Bugs Grypocoris stysi decorating a not-quite-open Hogweed! #InsectWeek #bugsky
As today’s #BirdOfTheDay main theme is #RedBeaks I couldn’t resist posting an archive pic of this Chough, taken earlier in the year in Cornwall. @robcrank68.bsky.social 🪶
