Updated! (1) I missed the Kungsberget location, another ski resort operated by Branäsgruppen. (2) A statue were located at the warehouse Obs north of Stockholm in Rotebro, put there some time 1990-1992.
The Swedish Super Mario statue map. (from martinlindell.com/2025/10/05/s...)
Tried the Viggen flight simulator at the F-15 flight museum in Söderhamn. Great experience! Despite the rudimentary graphics, the big screen and sitting in the copit gave a feeling of realism when turning, looping, flying low and all the other maneuvers I got to try.
New issue of Swedish game mag Videospelsmagasinet is out now. I’ve written about The Last Ninja 🥷.
Bubble Bobble is one of my favorite retro games. My selection was part of a “reader react” on the topic “The C64 conversion that left an impact on you” in a recent issue of Retro Gamer.
Reminiscing about Monkey Island made me think of the early reviews of the game. Swedish mags were quite skeptical. Attack gave 3/10 in gameplay and Datormagazin 79%, which is not bad but not stellar for a masterpiece like Monkey Island.
Monkey Island 2. Love the two first games in the series. Humor, atmosphere, story, music. Pinnacle of 90’s click ‘n play adventures.
Terranigma - My favorite SNES game. Gripping story, fun action RPG gameplay and beautiful music and pixel art visuals.
Time flies. It’s almost 10 years ago since Nordic Nintendo distributor Bergsala celebrated 40 years, the new Super Mario statue was unveiled and I met Satoru Shibata and handed him my old book about Nintendo’s entry into Sweden.
The book is packed with old articles and new essays about the impact Syntax Error had on games culture in Sweden.
Syntax Error! The radio show that gave us game music on public radio in Sweden in the early 2000’s. The host and author Thomas “Sol” Sunhede published a nostalgia fuming book in Swedish about the show
Pixel Arcadia, a new gaming showcase debuts on August 24. Focus on re-releases and remasters, new titles in retro genres such as shoot’em up and beat‘em ups, and games made for retro platforms and new officially licensed hardware.
Wonderful rendition of Sonic the Hedgehog Greenhill zone performed by Mölnlycke Big Band.
NES celebrating 40 years in Scandinavia with a cake and Bergsala founder Owe Bergsten at Retrospelsmässan in Gothenburg.
Another Nordic Game in the books! Talks about marketing were well attended which shows the challenge of getting attention on a saturated market. Participated in the state of the industry panel with Casey Al-kaisy, Stefan Lampinen, and Emmanuel Rosier. Watch it here: m.youtube.com/watch?v=53Hk...
Photo from visiting SNK in Osaka last year while working on the Neo Geo AES+.
Been on the internet for 30 years. Before signing up with an ISP, I had an old modem for BBS:s. My friend had internet before me. It was an eye opener to surf the Sierra Online chat.
Batsugun tournament on Antstream Arcade. I’m currently ranked #17. Satisfied, given that I’m no maniac demon player when it comes to shoot’em up.
The legendary Super Mario Bros piggy bank. I bought it from the Swedish Club Nintendo in the 80’s.
Book release event at Spel & Sant for @gameadvisor.bsky.social about his legendary career with Sega, EA, Xbox, Warner and more, with focus on the business and commercial part of the games industry. I had the honor to write the foreword.
I bought a book during the exhibition on Odaiba, was lucky to be in Japan in May last year, and bought this piece.
Late release on SNES. Towards the end of 1996 in most of Europe (never made it to the US). In Spain it released in 1997, the strategy guide even got a N64 advert.
One the best action RPG of all time. Gripping story, beautiful music, stunning pixel art, great balanced gameplay. If Terranigma would have released two years earlier it would like gained more recognition, but in 96/97 everyone was thinking 3D and looking forward to Final Fantasy VII.
