Saw the RHS botanical art exhibition today (Saatchi gallery) and it was really inspiring. I've only included plants in 1 drawing so far, but would like to do more in the future.

Something a bit different for today's share. Before I started doing ridiculously detailed insects, I did a few crustaceans using vector shapes, scanned paper textures and some custom 'splodgy' brushes.

Ok, the complete opposite of a finished, polished drawing. Here’s what I’m working on at the moment…

Along with the assassin bug and dead leaf mantis, this is probably one of my most detailed drawings...

It's a stag beetle! Now we see the head, thorax and abdomen, plus bits of legs.

Another one. "Why's this drawing asymmetrical?" I hear you ask. Well, this drawing was originally intended to be a simple anatomy diagram in my book (back when the book was going to be a bit more educational).

Aha - it's a sawtooth stag beetle, with a very shiny green body and long, straight mandibles.

Now looking at the full drawing, we can see one wing is spread open with the other closed.

We've zoomed out even more. It looks a bit like a wasp, with a black and yellow body and bright orange antennae, but something's off.

Ah, it was a moth all along. A moth in disguise.
