Last week, we went to the Wyandotte County Fair to see the rodeo. We rode a tractor cart thing from the parking area. I felt like my insides were going to pop out. Not a smooth ride. 😆 Plus, I learned what mutton bustin’ is. A little girl named Harper won and went home with her $50 prize money.
Thank you for a beautiful story of sports, humanity and kindness. Kansas City will miss you, but my college town of Lawrence will be heartbroken with your absence. #WorldCup
Visiting City of Entrepreneurs at @unionstationkc is a must! Support #kansascity businesses. There are lots of beautiful items to purchase and services to learn about in our metro. #shoplocal
When I first heard the FIFA #WorldCup was coming to #KansasCity, I was thrilled. This weekend’s FIFA Fan Festival showed Kansas City at its best—great energy, people from around the world and a true sense of community. Tonight, KC hosts its first match: Argentina vs. Algeria!
Tonight, while volunteering for the JoCoMuseum at Meadowbrook Festival in Prairie Village, Kansas, I could feel KC World Cup excitement growing. There were soccer jerseys from around the world and a variety of languages spoken, a reminder of the rich diversity that makes our community so vibrant. ⚽️
After 60 years of serving the community, Jalisco Restaurant in #KansasCity, KS closed this past weekend. I remember going to dinner in their party room with a visiting ballet folklórico from Mexico. I was a young teen. Then, we danced to a newly-released “Off the Wall” album by Michael Jackson.
I heard Dr. DeAngela Burns-Wallace, author of “Made for This” and #KansasCity native, speak. One message stayed with me: “Not everyone likes your light.” Don’t shrink yourself to make others comfortable. If you’ve earned your seat at the table, don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. #Leadership
What a beautiful morning at the #HispanicChamberKC’s monthly Café con Empresarias. Today’s uplifting presentation by #Latina author (and friend) Angela Cervantes was a wonderful reminder of the power of perseverance, creativity and #storytelling. #KansasCity.
There is profound loss when someone gives their life in #military service. For some families, the grief is immediate and personal. For others, the loss happened long ago, yet its generational trauma never leaves. Today, we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. #memorialday
Last week, I attended my first 1 Million Cups #KC en Español, hosted at the incredibly cool #KeystoneInnovationDistrict. We heard from two #Latina #entrepreneurs who shared the courage it takes to build something of your own. #1MC #kauffmanFD #entrepreneurship #womeninbusiness #sisepuede
Did you know that 1 in 7 adolescents live with a mental health condition? Last Saturday, I spent the day in a National Council for Mental Wellbeing training—en español. The goal: 1 First Aider in every circle of friends, family and peers. That means one in 15 ppl. #MentalHealthMatters #KansasCity
What a wonderful time at #GuadalupeCenters 8th Grade Career Jumping event yesterday! It was even better sharing the experience with friends. #mentorship #students #kansascity
My heart breaks for #DoloresHuerta. I pray for her healing and for all sexual abuse and violence survivors. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/03...
Weds. night, I was honored to chat with Julían Castro in #kansascity and reminisced about living in #satx when he was mayor. The former U.S. secretary of HUD spoke about expansion plans for the #LatinoCommunityFoundation, where he is president. lnkd.in/dGYnRqxE #Hispanic #Latino #OurLatinoFuture
Because of ongoing street construction, Lilly’s Cantina, a small Mexican restaurant, has been losing money. I made it a point to go this week and spoke with the owner and told her we were there to support her business. If you are in #kansascity, maybe you could, too. We must support local.
Enjoyed the performing arts this February. There is always something entertaining in #kansascity! From ABBA to tango.
In honor of #BenitoBowl, we filled up with delicious Puerto Rican carne frita, chicharrón de pollo, bolitas de mofongo, papas supreme and tostones. 🇵🇷
Hmmm… should I use Chat GPT’s caricature of me based on what it knows of me professionally? Kind of accurate.
Today is the end of an era. Dad and I went for our last meal at La Fonda El Taquito last week. A #kansascity staple for 47 years. Thank you. #restaurant #mexicanfood
So, if you’re thinking of grocery shopping before the big storm hits #KC tomorrow night, you better git goin’! #kansascity #kcwx
Donated many bags full of gently-used clothing to #avenueoflife. I have volunteered there (painted a conference room) and donated several times previously. Clothes and other items are given to those in need at no cost to them. #kansascity #nonprofit #kansascityks
