It would be rude not to post this very fine poem by the late, great Sarah Maguire, from one of my all-time favourite collections The Pomegranates of Kandahar (Chatto & Windus, 2007) - though all her books were brilliant.

An ‘orange’ladybird, Halyzia sedecimguttata, in the garden. One of three yellow ladybird species found in the UK, apparently, but the only one with white spots.
