Never used Blender before, so I did a tutorial from CG Boost to learn the UI. Needs more tweaking, but this'll do for now to just warm up to the app. I've used Maya and SoftImage XSI professionally on movies, and Modo as a hobby, but never Blender. The app seems pretty great.

After four days typing for forty or more minutes per session, I've wrapped up typing out the George Saunders story "Tenth of December" in full, all 8,633 words. Took about three hours and seven minutes, so 46 words/minute, which is pretty slow for me. My usual is 60. But there you have it.

When the Photoshop layer was changed to Divide color mode, it showed this difference only between PS and CSP. When I zoomed in, though, these colors were all in the blacks, and the differences were no more than 1% difference in the k tones. Not something any of us can see.

That's our next week here in Samobor, Croatia, where Wikipedia tells me 39º is the highest recorded temp since 1981. For filthy Americans, 40º C = 104º F. Fuck this shit. My tomato plants aren't so stoked on this.

Something I did in 2019 while messing around with Modo, City Gen, zBrush, and xFrog, an SF city with energy ribbons circling the city to carry traffic. Scale perhaps a bit wonky with those birds. This is a WIP render. Never finished this, but had fun anyway.

Here's what I wrote in 2019:

Something I was working on a few months ago but never finished.
I had this idea for a city that has these sort of energy ribbons that go around the city like highways. Drones for shipping and taxis and everything else attach themselves to that ribbon and are taken around the city. They can attach and detach. Those drones require very little energy because those energy ribbons that're the highways power the flight. They just latch onto it and get carried around in the current. You can see them circling the city in magenta and blue-green.
Anyway, this is sort of a snapshot of a work in progress that I never finished. Still loads to do but not sure I will ever finish it. I'll probably render out a camera fly through though to see what the city looks like with a camera flying through it.
Learned a bunch about Modo and City Gen and Zbrush while doing this. And that was the point. Maybe I'll finish it one day, but maybe not. Wanna get onto some other stuff.

Some of my Portland and brewing/beer friends around the world knew Alan Sprints, so I'm posting this in case you haven't heard that he passed away. RIP, old friend.

Beloved husband, father, brother, and visionary brewer, passed away following a difficult battle with bladder cancer. He was 66 years old.
Alan was born on September 7, 1959, in Culver City, California, to the late Lila Entis and Martin Sprints. In 1988, following his passion for the culinary arts, Alan relocated to Portland, Oregon, to attend the Western Culinary Institute. After honing his craft for several years in the food and beverage industry, Alan took a bold leap in 1993 by founding the Hair of the Dog Brewing Company. Over the next three decades, he built a legendary business celebrated by beer enthusiasts worldwide. Alan was a true pioneer in the American craft brewing movement, introducing an old-world approach to beer making and creating uniquely complex, barrel-aged, and high-gravity beers that challenged and redefined the industry.
Beyond the brewery, Alan was a man of diverse talents and boundless curiosity. He was an avid gardener, a skilled stained-glass artist, a ceramicist, and a tinkerer extraordinaire who found joy in creating things with his hands and nurturing the world around him.
Alan’s greatest devotion was to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Eliana Temkin, and their three sons, Elijah, Isaac, and Gabriel Sprints. He also leaves behind his sister, Wendy Sprints (Dan Kaempff); sister-in-law, Dina Temkin (Dominic Green); in-laws Dvora Temkin and Howard Temkin, aunt and uncle, Judie and Michael Rickus; step-mother, Madeline Sprints as well as a close-knit circle of nieces, cousins, extended family, and lifelong friends.
The family will hold a private burial service, with a public celebration of life to be planned in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alan’s memory to New Avenues for Youth, an organization close to his heart.
