🛖 professional hermit 🚀 product dude 🎮 beat godrick in elden ring once 📻 Making getCOPY.app (skinnable, private walkie-talkie) - find it on the App Store! (Android coming soon)
Pushed out COPY 1.0.3 to TestFlight tonight! 1.0.2 was mostly Android readiness (just waiting on the Play Store) 1.0.3 is polish: new Learn COPY onboarding segments, a few skin management refinements, and much faster channel renames. Another post on that one, soon :) #BuildInPublic #IndieApp #iOS
This week, @atippins.bsky.social and I have been rethinking how COPY teaches you to use it. The constraint: no new ui or unfamiliar patterns. The walkie itself should do the teaching. Simplicity is tough 😉 Wdyt? Too cheesy 😅(sound on!) #BuildInPublic #IndieApp #software #design #iOS
Pushed RX-80 out to the COPY Test Pilots a few days ago and the feedback has been so good. After using it on a real phone, I ended up swapping the roller and the mini LCD. The roller feels way more natural where your thumb already wants to rest. #BuildInPublic #IndieApp #software #design #iOS
after months of living with it daily, @atippins.bsky.social and I open the COPY beta tomorrow. walkie-talkie app. E2EE. skins! the first set of skins is an ode to the great industrial designers of the last few decades. join us: getcopy.app 📻 #BuildInPublic #IndieApp #software #design
So close to opening up beta. Just a few more rough areas to sand. @atippins.bsky.social's been cooking on our settings clean-up 💅 #BuildInPublic #IndieApp #software #design
Just found one of my favorite Sonique skins from the "geocities era" of the internet 😂 I was always drawn more to Sonique than Winamp. Was bummed when Lycos shut them down right as Sonique 2 was starting to pick up some momentum during early development. #BuildInPublic #IndieApp #software #design
every messaging app is optimized for the same thing: making you feel like you need to respond right now. COPY doesn't have read receipts. no typing indicators. you talk when you want, listen when you're ready. #BuildInPublic #IndieApp #software #design
also the stills don't do this one justice 😍 we're getting closer to opening up the beta. sign-up here: getCOPY.app
as we've been building COPY, @atippins.bsky.social has focused mainly on the skins and skinning engine. this week we wanted to see what it takes for someone else to build a skin from scratch. needless to say, the engine is working. fun to see how this one evolved 🔥 #BuildInPublic #iOS #IndieApp
what if your walkie-talkie looked like it was designed for the grid 💅 #BuildInPublic #iOS #IndieApp #UIDesign
while we focus on the core experience for COPY, @atippins.bsky.social and i started to explore monetization approaches, and kinda love this one: skins as the whole business model. app stays free, cosmetics are paid. no subscriptions. ever. #BuildInPublic #iOS #IndieApp #expo
we're bringing skins back to software 💅 COPY is a walkie-talkie app for iOS @atippins.bsky.social's been cooking on the first batch of skins. If you want to help us test, sign up for early access: getcopy.app #BuildInPublic #iOS #IndieApp
Took the last few weeks off of @budglets.app development as annual planning has ramped up at work. Still been able to get a little work in! Added support for savings accounts and savings goals. Commissioned a design friend to create a Duo type mascot. #BuildInPublic #iOS
Edit transactions starting to feel smooth. Syncing engine has been stable. And my first Smart Insight is almost ready. So close to opening up the beta group 😎 #BuildInPublic #iOS
Still a work in progress but transaction syncing is starting to feel good 😎 #BuildInPublic #iOS
Huge progress on Budglets this weekend! First iteration of the transaction sync engine. New color/design system. Played with layouts on the budglet envelopes. Feels like it’s starting to come together 😍
Started vibe coding a fun little private social app to share movies, shows, books and eventually podcasts you’re into with friends. Amazed at how good Claude code is 🔥
I've had Kinda Funny playing in the background on the TV for so long they've essentially raised my kids 😂. Congrats on 10 years, @gameovergreggy.bsky.social Shoutout to that time you and the crew came to AZ and were spreading the smiles in full Greggy mode. Basically the perfect day.
Finally, I'm prototyping UI like crazy in Claude before going into the IDE. For example, I fed Claude some wireframes and had it give me some higher fidelity options based on what I had mocked up. Once I land on something, I'll copy the react code over to the IDE as guidance for the AI to work from.
Instead of just telling it what I want it to do, and hope for the best (especially for some more complex tasks), I'm having it replay back to me what it plans to do before it starts implementation. This saves a ton of back and forth, and helps us dial in requirements so I get the expected output
