An emotional moment outside Delaney Hall as a man is released from the largest immigration jail on the East coast:
Attorney General Pam Bondi says 30 additional people will face federal charges for the anti-ICE protest at Cities Church in St. Paul last month. (That's on top of those already charged, who include Don Lemon and others.)
An image from earlier this month in Minneapolis: A masked agent in an unmarked car, entering a federal building while flashing the exact type of "a-okay" sign that's often used as an ironic white power troll. www.splcenter.org/resources/ha...
More tear gas, this time back at the Whipple federal building, supposedly because protesters are in the street
The people of Minneapolis are hounding immigration agents wherever they pop up. Earlier today:
Earlier tonight- a scuffle between an activist and right-wing provocateur Nick Sorter (who’d ripped the activist’s face shield from her hands). Federal agents, who’d issued warnings to clear the road, deployed what I believe was teargas.
Federal agents, led by Border Patrol honcho Greg Bovino, confronted protesters at the Whipple federal building in Minneapolis. At least one man says he was pepper sprayed.
Timelapse of the protest and police response passing 54th north on 8th:
I’m at Times Square, where an emergency “No War On Venezuela” protest just took to the street. Easily a thousand people here in real-feel 20°F weather. “No more coups, no more wars, Venezuela’s not yours!” “No boots on the ground no bombs in the air, U.S. out of everywhere!”
This photo of Bill Gates and a person whose face is redacted, from the Epstein files, shows two doors bearing the Signature Aviation (a.k.a. "Signature Flight Support") logo. Source: Epstein’s estate, via the House Oversight Committee. H/t @gnobes.bsky.social for spotting the Signature logos.
Update just now: "I'm told this man, Erick Montes, has been released. He’s now in the hospital with a broken hand," HuffPost's Igor Bobic reports.
After several hours of marching through midtown Manhattan, this Stop Starving Gaza/Stand With Gaza march has reached Columbus Circle and is winding down. I got here at the tail end of it, and I’d still say I saw thousands of demonstrators.
Immigration detention is not like federal or state prison; people aren’t sent there after receiving a sentence, and it’s not supposed to be a punishment. But that’s how the administration is using it, threatening "detention for months" for people who don't "self-deport."
In April, Trump terminated a legal aid program for people in immigration proceedings who've been found mentally incompetent to represent themselves. In June, Senate staffers saw "self-deport" posters ("Do you want to go home?") inside the Behavioral Health Unit at the infamous Krome detention center
Yeonsoo Go, daughter of Episcopal priest Rev. Kyrie Kim, was arrested by immigration agents in Manhattan Thursday following a routine visa hearing. A rally was held today at 26 Federal Plaza to call for her release, & in support of others detained there. Photos from the Episcopal Diocese of NY:
Here is footage of NY State Assembly Member Claire Valdez and NYC Council Member Tiffany Cabán being arrested from inside the building housing Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand's NYC offices, ~1:35pm. Cabán's was "demanding that Israel stops starving Gaza," her office told me.
Just spoke outside the building to Alexa Avilés, who left earlier and was not arrested. But Cabán and Valdez are still inside and do likely face arrest bsky.app/profile/matt...
Police gave a warning that remaining protesters face arrest, and arrests have begun. Most of the protesters left voluntarily before arrests began, but dozens remained seated
“Not in our name, not on our dime, no more money for Israel’s crimes” Police are starting to arrive
