Adapted a Fork & Embers recipe to my Weber rotisserie. Pork loin, with a honey-lime glaze, and cherry, hickory and oak smoke. Juicy and delicious.

Created in 1968, Accession IV by Eva Hesse is a landmark post-minimalist sculpture. It features an open-topped galvanized steel cube containing thousands of woven rubber tubes that protrude from the interior. The contrast between the rigid geometric exterior and the unruly, organic center creates an unsettling, bodily effect.

Painted in 1928, Night Windows is a quintessential Edward Hopper oil-on-canvas that captures a voyeuristic view into a brightly lit New York City apartment at night. The painting is structured around three identical, dark green window frames that resemble a film strip, framing a scene akin to an illuminated stage. Through the window on the far left, a sheer curtain flutters outward, suggesting a cool evening breeze. Inside, a woman in a pink chemise is hunched over in a casual, somewhat inelegant pose, attending to private affairs completely oblivious to the viewer's gaze. This elevates a common urban experience—glancing into the window of a passing elevated train—into a profound study of modern isolation and voyeurism.

I made these this year, and jam, and just eating them by the handful, but the ants, birds & squirrels still wound up with a lot of them.

I saw a few versions of a “Reflecting Pool” cocktail, which seems more apt this year. Make it with blueberry skins for extra realism.

Oh, yeah… that must’ve hurt. ICE must be really strapped for cash now.

The current baseline annual discretionary budget for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is $10.88 billion for Fiscal Year 2026.

However, this baseline is vastly expanded by a massive multi-year funding measure passed by Congress in June 2026. Under this budget reconciliation package, ICE was awarded an additional $38 billion to fund mass deportation, detention, and enforcement operations through the remainder of President Trump's term.

I touched some grass (and water, and volcanic rock) this weekend.

Burney Falls. A huge waterfall with two main streams split by a tree, and a multitude of smaller ones. There’s a forest on top, and a beautiful blue sky.

I was surprised to learn that shooting competitions were part of many schools’ athletic programs in the past. There are still 2000 high school programs.

Wikipedia article: Until 1969 virtually every public high school-even in New York City-had a shooting club. High school students in New York City carried their guns to school on the subways in the morning, turned them over to their homeroom teacher or the gym coach during the day, and retrieved them after school for target practice. Club members were given their rifles and ammunition by the federal government. Students regularly competed in citywide shooting contests for university scholarships.

You say “insurgency,” I say “community defense force.” Look at what happened at Bundy ranch in 2014, if you want an example. A handful of people with guns changes the calculus of government agents very quickly.
