Newcastle Pride was fun but I do not understand why they thought finishing the march at Monument was a good idea. Was a hell of a squeeze for all those people. This isn't a normal Saturday protest in Newcastle, it's Pride! Put it back on the town moor where it used to be

My correspondence with Mary Glindon MP, on the EHRC Code of Practice

I am a constituent of yours, I live in Byker with my partner who is a trans woman. The Supreme Court's recent ruling on the interpretation of the Equality Act 2010 has started a process that is upending the long-held rights of transgender people to access public spaces and services that we all take for granted. This ruling was met with no pushback or scrutiny from the government, and now the government plans to adopt a Code of Practice that will further enshrine this new segregation.

Nadia Whittome MP has tabled EDM 240, which has already collected signatures from more than a hundred of your colleagues, and which calls for a rejection of that new Code of Practice. I am writing to you to urge you, as a constituent, to vote in favour of the EDM and halt the hacking up of the Equality Act.

Thank you for your email.

I hope you are assured by the Minister for Equalities that the Government is clear, it will protect single sex spaces based on biological sex, where they are needed, and that it is also clear that everyone, including trans people, should have the right to access the services they need in a way that is respectful, protects dignity and privacy, and ensures adequate provision.

It is my opinion that to have real equality in this country, biological women and girls must have their rights protected. The government have made it clear that no one’s rights are being eroded by the Supreme Court Judgement and the Code. I am confident that going forward this will become abundantly apparent.

Racism and misogyny has no place in Sunderland City Council chamber - help us to oppose it!

Glenn Gibbins, a newly elected Reform UK councillor representing Hylton Castle ward, has now taken place on Sunderland City Council.

Mr Gibbins put Sunderland in the national spotlight last month for making openly racist and misogynistic comments, including calling for Nigerian people in Sunderland to be 'melted down and used to fill in pot holes' and making derogatory comments about female sports commentators, who he claimed should 'stick to cooking…sewing …and home making'.

Sunderland Green Party has condemned these comments and calls on you to oppose discrimination and hate.

The next council meeting is happening on Wednesday 24th June. We will be outside City Hall at 3pm to demonstrate against Gibbins and those who aid and enable him, including Sunderland’s Reform UK branch who are now in power.

Join us, bring placards, and ask your friends to come.

Together we can send a strong message that Sunderland is better than this!
