Chasing bugs often means keeping my eyes tuned for tiny critters. Much easier when I come across a big, showy one like this Flat-headed Wood Borer beetle.

Many insects are tiny and easy to overlook. But that is not the case for Soldier Flies.
Large Milkweed Bugs are quite common here. But this is the first time I've seen one with its wings extended. Really showing off for the camera!

Love it when you find a fresh, newly emerged butterfly displaying its colours in full bloom: Banded Hairstreak.
I only see maybe one or two of them a year and I'm always taken by how striking they look: Swift Feather-legged Fly.
It is usually impossible to specifically identify a Globetail with the kind of photo I take. But I love seeing them anyway.
Hard to top a Red-blue Checkered Beetle for most colourful find of the day.

I had no idea Picture-winged Flies could be so big! This one is definitely the coolest looking bug I've seen so far. Picture-winged Fly - Idana marginata.
