Up to a dozen nights in a row that a motion activated camera in my office has detected something unseen at exactly 3.27 AM. 👻
I am so happy to know I will be on a plane over international waters when this happens, blissfully unaware of whatever word vomit he expels, and with no intention of my learning of it for more than two weeks.
There are worse ways to spend some time, round two, and worse ways to get there.
A damp, grey weekend was the right time for this cold stark masterwork. Although I feel guilty for not having read it sitting in field spattered with rain as I tried to make out the words in dim light from under a tattered tarp. A difficult but amazing book. Hope in the face of absolute devastation.
“Everyone” knows that Hemingway is a great author, but it’s just a thing you “know” until you remind yourself in his pages that he is truly a master. A magnificent bastard in some ways maybe, but there’s no doubt about being magnificent. This book is a masterpiece.
Forget sharing the last picture You saved. I want to see the first picture on your phone.
Needed something light after Yesteryear. This was the perfect bon mot antidote. A clever, funny, observant “love” letter to New York City and North Carolina. Made me wistful for a home that doesn’t exist. I Totally Meant To Do That - @janeborden.bsky.social
Blowing in the wind. Found on the sidewalk outside of my office. I hope for positive things for this person who is making the efforts.
Another from that era. Visible in this one. Pac-10 Championship, Lake Natoma/Sacremento
First Windermere Cup race - UW vs Soviet Union. 40 years ago. And yes, I’m in this pic, but not very visible behind the plaque.
Finished this today. Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke. Thought I was getting a light-hearted skewering of the tradwife culture. Instead got a darker, more sinister examination of religion, women’s roles in society, the ills of social media and doomsday politics. Well written, interesting, dark.
One of life‘s wonderful, simple pleasures. Cool morning giving way to afternoon warmth in the sun at an outdoor café.
One of my employees just sent out this poll to our local office Teams chat. I voted “Absolutely.” 😁 🍺🍷🍹
Begrudgingly agreed to read a 1,300 page novel for a book group - The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas. Didn’t realize I was embarking on a page-turning, excellent adventure. Compelling and entertaining at every twist and turn. Wonderful characters. Highly recommend as a book or door stop.
Considering how much of an inept bachelor I am at preparing meals for myself, this is a self-congratulatory post for doing a grocery store run on a Sunday afternoon.
Trail run today. As a longtime cyclist, I continue to ponder the wisdom of my decision to do a long running event with my son.
