Hello Malacca - the cossroad of Asia, and reminder of St Francis Xavier.
A great pleasure to say proper Goodbye to Singaporean Christian colleagues and friends, to generate a panel discussion on hope & knowledge, and to present a little my book "Singapore Dialogue" - joyofgifting.com/product/sing... Many thanks to all the speakers, facilitators and participants.
June 12th, anniversary of the death of Sybil - a Malaysian Catholic heroin. Sybil Kathigasu, pray for us.
As I prepare to conclude my appointment at the National University of Singapore at the end of this month, I am pleased to invite Singaporean friends to a farewell lecture next Friday on campus. After 5 intense and meaningful years, it's time to say goodbye
Today, May 24th & Pentecost, Catholics are called to pray for the Church in China. This Church is a beautiful and lively gathering of Christians (Catholics, Protestants, and others...), with its own challenges and opportunities. Let's give thanks for their testimony!
Anthropology. The Church loves to talk about Anthropology but not with anthropologists. Strange, no?
Tomorrow, Thurs, 3 PM (Singapore time) I will join this discussion on Canon Law in cross cultural perspective. Everyone interested in Canon Law is welcome - more information on the book launch and Zoom link to attend 👉 www.ktf.uni-bonn.de/faecher/kirc...

Here are the 5 patron saints selected by the Church in Korea for the World Youth Days Seoul 2027. We can surely appreciate the efforts to include gender, age, racial, and continental diversity. This message is clear. Yet, there is an unhealthy and un-holy issue behind this final selection.
This Thursday, March 12, I will fly to Vancouver for a 3-day conference, and then Chicago, Louisville, Saint Louis & Kansas City for 2 more weeks of work. If you are around, send me a message
War is never just, especially in the technological context we live. Brilliant demonstration from pope Francis in "Fratelli Tutti" 👇
Tonight, while East Asia jumps into a new year, I wish I were in Hong Kong or 延平。There is something special about this new year eve. Happy New year to all.
After an additional 2-month delay, Harvard Divinity School finally informed me (or "Dr. Chabon"…) that I was not selected. A colleague there suggested they would never hire a white man to teach Asian Christianity and that I shouldn't hold my breath.
Blessed Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. And happy new year!
