What. The. HELL 😱 WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? I thought this was an Onion joke but it’s a WSJ article. Who would even hire someone who included their mommy or daddy in the interview? Why wouldn’t you immediately fire someone who had their parent call to ask about their performance review? Ffs!

It used to be that the closest your parents ever got to your job hunt was your exasperated "I'll let you know if I hear anything" when they asked how an interview went. But some Gen Zers are now entering the workforce with their parents in tow:
• Of the 1,000 Gen Zers surveyed by resume service Zety, 20% said a parent had joined them on a job interview.
• And it doesn't stop when they get the job. HR professionals told the Wall Street Journal they're fielding calls from parents of young employees asking about performance reviews, benefit packages, or even calling in sick on their kids' behalf.
Maybe don't? Recruiters warn that this kind of parental involvement can be a huge red flag for potential employers. It's much more appropriate to have your rich, well-connected parent quietly get you a summer internship. - MM

Ugh. Going outside to collect the books from the library book drop today is going to suck rubber donkey dongs. I normally go at noon and 3 on Mondays. But even if I split the diff and just go once, at 2pm, 100 degrees would be my reward. No good options today. Hope our HVAC holds up.

Went to Costco this weekend and y’all— they already pulled out the giant Halloween skeletons! Hard to parse that with our middle of summer 102F degree day… I mean I’m familiar with Xmas in July but not Halloween. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I read The Deluge when it was first released. An absolutely exquisite book, not a wasted page. Weighs in at nearly 3lbs, so either go digital (iPad preferably due to how some of the section headers are displayed, just doesn’t rend well on a Kindle) or have pillows ready to prop that sucker up on.

WASHINGTON - Millions of Americans with obesity are eagerly awaiting a powerful new drug from Eli Lilly called retatrutide, which has demonstrated bariatric-surgery levels of weight loss. Some aren't even waiting for approval from the Food and Drug Administration, instead racing to acquire it through sketchy means.
But STAT has learned that Eli Lilly and the FDA have allowed one person to gain access to the drug through the FDA's "compassionate use" program, a pathway that gives patients with serious and immediately life-threatening medical issues access to experimental treatments.
This person was a 79-year-old man at the time the request was made in April, according to three sources familiar with the matter.
Those sources, who requested anonymity due to fear of reprisals, said it drew the interest of top health officials, suggesting the person receiving this drug was well connected.

$A senior clinician at the National Institutes of Health named Ranganath Muniyappa requested the drug to treat the patient for refractory obesity with obstructive sleep apnea and pulmonary hypertension, a severe version of the disease. Pulmonary hypertension is high blood pressure in the lungs, which can be life-threatening. STAT does not know who the patient is. But given the patient demographics and the unusual nature of the application, STAT asked the White House multiple times whether the patient was President Trump, who turned 80 a week ago, is overweight, and has expressed interest in obesity drugs.$

When I was fostering cats I got one of those Furminator brushes and would use it on them once a day, vacuum once a day, lint brush myself once a day, and kept my bedroom door closed so I’d have one cat hair-free room to retreat to. That worked pretty well. Cat tax:

This is paywalled, but here’s the list of apps if you’d like to try one. Perhaps your doctor will be less of an asshole, er, I mean less dismissive of your concerns, if they know they’re being recorded.

A growing number of consumer apps — with names like VisitRecall, Advoca Health, and AlignCare — are using AI to do just that, delivering summaries and action items for patients after the fact. One called Kin Health, with backing from the co-founder of GoodRx, announced a $9 million seed round in May.

I often think about La Tropicana in Ybor City FL and their Cuban coffee and Cuban toast. Used to sit and watch them pull the loaves out of the oven and remove the palmetto leaf that runs down the middle. They went out of business during the covid pandemic in 2020. Family owned for over 50+ yrs. 😭💔
