While 99% of what I do is people-photography, it is nice sometimes to look at a subject that doesn't talk back. 😉 I recently re-saw this old slide and needed to share it again. As I saw on a sticker the other day: how you treat the water is how you treat people. We gotta TAKE CARE OF OUR WATER.

I think what I liked was the decisiveness of film - you HAD TO have your exposure dialed in, you HAD TO know what you wanted the photo to look like, and you HAD TO know what you wanted from your subject. There was no "I'll figure it out later"-ness!
Usually I would mayyyybe have time for two rolls of film, so a total of 20 chances, but it wasn't uncommon to only have time for ONE roll...TEN chances to get it right. I very enjoyed the pressure that came along with that.

A large-format camera is that classic kind, with the sheet over the photographer's head and the large bellows. I always used a 4x5 camera, which exposed a 4x5 inch piece of film, one piece of film at a time. #LargeFormatPhotography
I haven't had a LARGE-FORMAT camera in quite awhile, but my gosh, across my 25-year career, I've had two of them and they are such a special experience - both for how they influence the photo-making process, and for the quality of the images that result from that process. @papashittycams.bsky.social

2/4: Recently, I got to teach my "Photography Crash Course" for the Milwaukee Riverkeeper, and the mission of the course...a 2-hour class and a 2-hour photo-hike...was to educate photo-enthusiasts on basic photo-concepts...
