'Crépuscule' is a nice blend of tan and mauve. Created by Ferdinand Cayeux but registered by his son Rene many years later. It looks much older than its 1947 registration date. #iris 🌱 #bloomscrolling

This lovely brick red is 'Cordovan' from 1946. Super rare variety. I managed to get start of it from Switzerland and am hoping to preserve it here for the future. Great form. Was heavily used in hybridizing reds. #iris 🌱 #bloomscrolling

'Clara Noyes' from 1930. She can be a bit messy but with such great color and a fun pattern I forgive her. Listed as tall bearded but rarely gets taller than 2 feet. An interesting curiosity from the early days of US iris hybridizing. #iris #bloomscrolling 🌱

'Chocolate Malt', from 1963, is a nice smooth chocolate ice cream color with a bright blue flash at the tip of the beard. A favorite of mine. #iris 🌱 #bloomscrolling

'Chinquapin' is a lovely brown plicata from 1960. Jim Gibson did amazing things to expand the color palette in the plicata class. His work was carried on by Keith Keppel, who is still making crosses today. #iris 🌱 #bloomscrolling

'Cascade Splendor', from 1944, is a lovely blend of pink, salmon and gold. It was heavily used in hybridizing of later pinks. #iris 🌱

'Caldron', from 1957, is such a great old red variety. It really put on a fantastic show for me this year. Loads of bright blooms. It looked great in a bed with orange, brown, yellow and deep purple varieties. #iris 🌱 #bloomscrolling

'Calcutta', from 1938, is a beautiful blend of tan and lavender shot thru with golden threads. It rewards closer inspection. Heavy diamond dusting makes it sparkle in the sunshine. Great grower and bloomer. #iris 🌱

'Byzantium', from 1934, is such a pretty blend of pastels tones. Lots of sparkle to the flower too. A very good grower and bloomer. #iris 🌱

'B.Y. Morrison', from 1918, is a jaunty little neglecta. It looked so nice next to 'Yellow Moon'. Sometimes a rather plain iris can stand out better with a complimentary companion. #iris 🌱

'Broceliande', from 1931, is a nice smokey red with lots of busy stripes. Very eye-catching. #iris 🌱

'Blueyed Brunette' won the British Dykes Medal in 1967. It is a lovely brown variety with a bit of blue below the beard. Rather rare and hard to find. #iris 🌱

'Giralda', from 1939, is such a fantastic #iris variety. It has a huge bud count so blooms for so long. It was in bloom for over four weeks for me this year! The substance could be better, but that is performance. Great color tones and it is so lovely. 🌱

A selection of species #irises I saw this weekend at Cascadia Iris gardens. Really fun to see the Sino-Siberians. They are uncommon and can be difficult to grow. Thankfully they do well here in the PNW. 🌱

'Bengali', from 1962, is just so pretty. A nice warm rosy tone with a deep golden beard. A touch of orange around the beard warms it up even more. Super rare variety. Probably exists in only a couple of gardens. #iris 🌱

'Auburn', from 1945, sure is a bright splash of color in the garden. I love that rich rusty brown and the flash of lavender blue to catch the eye. #iris 🌱

I'm quite pleased with these photos of 'Anakim' from this year. It is such a good grower and bloomer for me. And it just glows across the garden. #iris 🌱

I love the rich color tones of 'Alpine Glow,' from 1945. The orange, magenta and lavender blend is so pleasing. #iris 🌱

The always charming 'May Allison', from 1920. I love the extra standards and petaloids it makes. And that soft blue is so nice in the garden. #iris 🌱

'Mexico", from 1943, is a bright and festive variety. Not the strongest grower for me, but just lovely when she chooses to show off. #iris 🌱
