Ottawa, Ontario. Mean, nasty Canadian Wilderness camper, fisherman, canoeist, & hiker. I've got thirsty ears for blues. Non-partisan. Kill FPTP & give us PR. I do NOT stand with LPC or CPC. He/him but I'll use any pronoun you prefer. Here since 24 Jul 2023
My wife, getting her last radiation treatment this morning. She found these outpatient sessions relaxing. The robot is so impressive.
Twice now, I received a chat from someone I follow. Looks like their accounts were hacked. It's an attempt to get Bluesky passwords.
Ottawa's air quality index is bad, and Orléans is worse at 156. These are our summers from now on, lurching from wildfires, to harmful forest fire smoke, heat domes, and droughts.
In 2018, we were doing some cleanup at my father-in-law's home and found a tank shell he'd been dragging around since WWII. We called the cops & they called the CAF who exploded it at a range. Caused a lot of excitement in the neighbourhood.
10 minutes ago, the skies went black. Heavy rain and winds started up & the power went. In 1998's Ice Storm, we never had outages, but now, don't make me curse. Power is back up, but more shit is headed this way. It's in a bigger blob this time.
My wife's family is on the opposite side, around Rockdale and l'Ardoise. This one was on a hill, of course.
In 201 6, we did a cemetery tour in Cape Breton and Halifax/Bedford, looking for my wife's family members. In Halifax, we came across the graves of Viola Desmond, Alexander Keith, and Joseph Howe.
It's been some time since I've played around with colourising old photos, but I tried out ON1's version with AI. This is my mother-in-law and her brother in the 1940s, in Cape Breton. So beautiful. You can feel the tension of the war in their faces. I'm impressed.
One of the oddest fish in the Ottawa River is the longnose gar. I've only seen photos.
If only he wasn't drunk & on barbiturates while speeding down the QEW in 1974. His Pantera was totalled. So was he.
It's that time of May again. Our rhododendron is in full bloom & being swarmed by bumble bees. Cool seeing people walking by & looking at it. Almost worth cloaking it for the winters.
Real campers know that this is also prime black fly season and avoid camping for now.
It feels great knowing that Turkey Patrol is out guarding the neighbourhood.
OK, very spotty, looks like 50/50 chance of rain or shine, all driftin eastward. For Drumpf, that's a 500% chance.
She would absolutely never let me go swimming without her. I'd get some nasty scratches on my shoulders & neck, but I always told people it was from my wife. 😁
This was Honey after I called her back from wandering too far ahead. She bowled me over. Seemed to me she was saying thanks for taking her out again.
Depends on what yer shooting. Who knew bears were so dogmatic eh. But yeah, most of my shots are in landscape.
Overnight temps are around 0°, good for maple sugar producers. The week is good until Tuesday. In the autumn, the leaves hadn't finished falling when the 1st snow hit. I was going to use the mower to suck up the leaves but had to put it away with gas still in the tank. I hope it starts.
Drumpf deleted it, but the image will live on long after he's buried on some obscure golf course.
2 years ago in October, this grouse strutted in front of me while riding my bike. Had to come to a quick stop & let it wander around. I don't know if someone had been feeding it or what, but no fear.
Demented Don's post from last night. He's looking forward to his "next conquest." What exactly has this idiot conquered, apart from destroying the myth of USian military & moral superiority?
I do wilderness camping but I haven't been able to convince my wife. She didn't like the idea of thunderboxes. I didn't tell her about Crown land camping where you dig your own holes.
My parents used to live on Tamarack Rd, the road that goes along the western shore of Blackfish Bay near Combermere, ON. The supermailboxes were placed at the arrow. My parents didn't care since they'd just drive to the post office in Combermere, but it would be tougher for others on that road.
