So the British Museum spends years & £M to get an artefact depicting foreigners crossing the Channel from France to England in small boats, on display in London. And tickets to celebrate this "invasion" depiction are selling like hot cakes. Small boat scourge Nigel Farage remains strangely silent.

Even the experts aren’t sure why Herring Gulls numbers declined so much before 2000, but it’s this decline which caused its addition to the Red List. Possibly due to a botulism outbreak. Also changes in landfill management and fishing bycatch

Also of note, is that for the last 10 days of June, 6 of 11 have been set in the last 10 years. This compares with just 5 day records from the first 19 days of June, set since 2000. 5 (consecutive) day records were also set this year in the May heatwave. Data from www.torro.org.uk/extremes/dat...
While we're in this current very pleasant interval before the next heatwave hits, I thought it worth comparing the day temperature records before the last heatwave, and after. Before, there were 5 day records from 1976, including a run of 4. Now there are just 2 records left from that Summer. ⬇️
Happy July! June in Dorchester was overall a warm month, despite having a cold and quite rainy first half; mean temp 18.1°C. An exceptional heatwave saw 8 days exceed 25°C with 5 >30°C and a new all time record here of 36.2°C on the 25th. Two tropical nights included a 21.3°C overnight minimum. ⬇️

1. What qualifications does a (checks notes) former Romanian police officer have to comment on meteorology. None. 2. Wales just recorded it highest June temperature on record. 3. Mediterranean countries France and Italy also have red weather warnings for extreme temperatures at the moment.
Red Warning has now been extended down to Dorchester for the rest of today and tomorrow. Not surprised really as we've had around the hottest weather both yesterday and today (but are not well covered by official weather stations). Have you made a decision about tomorrow @durotrigesdig.bsky.social?
