Crispy Critters was an animal-cracker shaped cereal released by Post twice: once in 1962 with Linus the Lionhearted as the mascot and again in 1987 with the Jimmy Durante-esque Crispy as the mascot. There was also a third release in 1995 in Canada called Mystery Critter Crunch without a mascot.

Actually, it's not a unique plot. Let Platypus Comix sum it up: "Yes, it's that old moldy plot: someone thinks their friends are neglecting them, but it turns out they're planning a party for them. I saw this story done a thousand times in my preschool TV shows and Little Golden Books."

My favorite of these books is actually Crispy's Bedtime Book, followed by No Place Like Home and The Birthday Band. The game was so close...
