The words and attitudes we take into space are as important as the materials we launch off Earth 🚀 #Goldschmidt2026
I am a very lucky node in a vast network of minds catalyzing each other—expanding, thriving, and learning together. May we continue to build connections in new and exciting ways.
The only thing more inexplicable than the origin of life is why we give awards to individuals when achievements are never accomplished alone. So this one’s for the mentors who’ve guided me, the colleagues who’ve propelled me, and the students who’ve inspired me.
Working on topics related to the origin, evolution, and detection of life on Earth and beyond? Going to the @agu.org meeting this December? Consider submitting an abstract to our session "The Emergence of Life as a Planetary Process"!
Realizing that I’m older than the vast majority of players competing in this year’s World Cup is such a bizarre feeling. Luckily, all I have to do is go to the lab and hold pieces of ~4-billion-year-old rocks in my hand, and suddenly I’m young again. Yay, science.
I remember when I told Yuk I wanted to be an astrobiologist. He said I was in luck: “Astrobiology is like marijuana. Fifteen years ago, it was unthinkable to do, but today it is totally acceptable.”

@chelseaharamia.bsky.social has taught me so many new terms over the past 3 years, but “causal nexus” is perhaps my favorite. I may not be able to build a better world all by myself. But I can be part of the causal nexus that achieves such goals. Every little bit of good counts.

“It is never too late to be what you might have been. But you have to get on with it. Don’t wait forever, because forever isn’t that long; forever can be shorter than you could possibly imagine.” —Aomawa Shields
I miss living in Seattle for so many reasons. A big one is the bookstores 📚
The last time my parents were in this lecture hall, they watched me, a @carnegiescience.bsky.social summer intern, give a presentation about my very first research project. I’ve lost count of research projects since then, but I’ll never forget who my biggest supporters are 💙
