Late by over a month, but- Some pictures of the Saskatoon bushes (the second bush is a little further back and to the left, I'm just focusing on the larger of the two bushes.) -June 14: Small post-flowering berries forming. -July 1: Larger berries, still green. -July 19: Many ripening berries.

Same bush again - While there are still many unripe green berries, many are turning shades of red, then purple. There aren't many purple (ripe) berries pictured, as we picked most of them :P

The sum total of ripe Saskatoons this past weekend, they fill a medium size Becel margarine tub.

Lake Manitoba today:

A picture of Lake Manitoba from a beach near St. Laurent.

The sky is a gently undulating light gray of, I believe, nimbostratus clouds.

Roughly one third down from the top is the horizon line. Despite being on the eastern shore looking west, the opposite shoreline cannot be seen - the water appears to be a medium gray.

Though the horizon line is broken by five icebergs. From left to right:
-The first is fairly flat and long-ish.
-The second is about equally as long, but rises slowly to a point on the right side about twice as high.
-The third is short, and dips down on the right such that you can see the horizon before rising back up briefly.
-The fourth is roughly in the middle, as short as the third, but it has a peak in the middle.
-The fifth is the shortest (horizontally) of the five, but has the tallest peak, kinda like a rounded right-angle triangle.

Below the bergs is a small span of open water, which is quickly replaced by flecks of white on the otherwise gray looking water. These flecks of white vary in density and persist all the way to the shoreline where they pile up slightly and can be seen in greater focus; Billions of shards of ice floating in the water.

For a treat only those reading this will know; Imagine the sound of two ice cubes clinking against each other in a bowl of water, and multiply it by billions. It is a beautiful sound; omnipresent from the shoreline as the winds and waves move this mass of Ice shards around.

The shoreline itself shows very little sand, and is instead piles of browning lake vegetation dotted with clam shells ranging from the size of your thumb, to smaller than your pinky-finger's nail. (Though I assure you, further back from this picture, but not shown in the picture, is at least 5 meters of sand.)

A sheet of cookie dough rolled out on the kitchen table (remember to clean it first!) covered in a light brown mix of cinnamon and sugar. In the background is the pot with the remaining three balls of dough, a rolling pin, measuring cup for the sugar, and the shaker of cinnamon I use.

The cookie sheet is cut into triangles. One triangle is rolled up. If you want them to be perfectly even, you could cut 8 inch circles and then divide that. I like my method because this already takes me 3+ hours, so I just use the entire sheet as is.

A *large* baking tray covered in rolled up scuffle cookies. It was made by my grandpa for my grandma out of a sheet of... I want to say stainless steel? Aluminum? Either way, one side is without a raised lip to more easily slide cookies off and into a bowl, makes cleaning and drying it easier, and it perfectly fits almost the entire oven. it holds SO MANY COOKIES, I love it. (increases the baking time by 5 min vs a standard tray though :P)

Some in-progress pictures from earlier in the day.

A glass bowl of warm milk with yeast rising in it. Covered with a vented glass pot lid because cats.

A pot full of 10 cups of flour and 2 pounds of shortening (and some salt). blended until it reaches a crumb-like texture.

A ball of the resulting dough. roughly 1/2 the recipe. (I make a double-recipe, so it is 1/4 my total dough)

Many things are terrible. I made #cookies. They are good, it is my Grandmother's recipe. We called them Rollup-cookies growing up. But they are, I believe, "Scuffles". I share the recipe freely:

-SCUFFLES-

Ingredients:
-1 lb shortening
-1 Tbsp sugar
-1/4 tsp salt
-2 eggs
-1 cup milk
-2 pkg yeast (2 Tbsp)
-About 5 cups flour
-Cinnamon and sugar, for topping

Instructions:
-Cut shortening into flour and salt.
-Heat milk to just warm, add sugar and dissolve. (110F - but if you feel it with your finger - it should be like warm (not hot!) bathwater)
-sprinkle yeast on top of milk mixture and let proof for 10 minutes (These are the instructions, but since I usually make a double batch, plenty of the yeast just sits on top. I mix half into the milk, sprinkle the rest on top, proof for 20 min, mix the stuff on top for 20 min and let proof for another 20 min)
-Mix and add rest of ingredients
-knead dough and roll out thinly (approx 3mm)
-sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar (I divide a single recipe of dough in half to roll out 2 sheets. Approximately 1/2 cup of sugar per sheet, cover with cinnamon until evenly brown (or to taste), mix the toppings and lightly roll to press it into the dough).
-cut sheet into rows about 4 inches wide. and then slice the rows into 1-2 inch wide triangles.
-roll the triangles up from wide end
-Bake 10-12 min at 350F

I was bored. And I realized that my favorite golf balls are the ones I find. And given that I /frequently/ lose golf balls (2-4 per 9 holes), maybe someday these four will be among someone else's favourites? (Using white balls as a base would have probably been better. This is what I have.)

A sand castle built on an island (the water level went down since I started and it is more of a peninsula now 🤪)

One large center spire with a white seagull feather for a flag on a square sand platform. The four corners of the platform have a small dome each.

The central platform is walled in with four quarter circle walls. Between the quarter circle wall are two taller towers to the north and south, and on the east/west facing are two shorter square keeps each. Lining the outside of the wall are small clam(?) shells.

Same as previous picture* but from the south side where the tall tower is connected to the quarter circle walls by a sand bridge on either side.

It was pretty damn stupid, and I'm pretty sure the only lesson learned by those in power is that they can lie with impunity. Which helped draft the roadmap for everything that's happened since. Also, behold! Bin Laden's mountain fortress. Extra "hilarious" considering where he was eventually found.

A pile of snow and ice (about 50cm high) on the edge of a beach, partially covered by sand in some places. The snow is up against the bushes that are only starting to revive after another long winter. If the quality of this uploaded picture was high enough, right at the horizon line where the sky meets the water, you might just be able to see a thin band of ice still on the lake.

There are also three small white shapes in the water. I had initially thought them to be pelicans, but after grabbing a pair of binoculars, they were chunks of ice/snow, likely hung up on a relatively shallow area.

Not finished reading yet, kinda stuck staring at exhibits A & B. Put them into paint to get a more immediately side-by-side comparison, and... I'm reminded of that GTA(3?) "AI" remaster that ignored all context and turned the giant hex nut into a smoothed out doughnut (among other sins)

Two images, Exhibits A and B from CommanderSterling's Crok review*. Spliced together so that the left side (labelled "A") is the remaster with all the textures smoothed out. While the right side ("B") is the original PSX graphics, which has more texture.

On the "A" side: the sand looks like a flat solid yellowish surface, broken up only by the faintest hint of a shadow from a box. The murky water(?) is a collection of circles in various shades of brown, many circles obviously cut in half where the texture repeats.

On the "B" side: The sand, while heavily pixelated, is random dots of different yellows, providing the illusion that the ground is not necessarily flat, and that you can almost see individual grains of sand. The murky "water" is the same shades of brown, but the browns run into each other and the textures look like a collection of cells rather than uniform circles - This in turn makes it harder to see the seams where the texture repeats.
