Yesterday's hard work revealed an okish lime plaster wall and a chestnut beam that had been charred and probably coated in used engine oil for preservation. After a lot of planing I managed to get it mostly back to bare wood, some finer planing or sanding and oiling and it'll be real nice looking 😇
