#Screenwriting: smart genre movies. (some scripts spoken for, some very much for sale) + Record label + Artist Mgmt + Discogs shop Show me science, wine, art, politics, Asian food, popup books + optical illusions.
Thanks Deb + Nathan for giving Storefront Church's new icy disco banger, Pictures Of Her Debit Card, a spin on New Music Fix just now. Linkinbio
Check out the icy disco heat of the new Storefront Church single, PICTURES OF HER DEBIT CARD. lnk.to/picturesofhe...
#lastnightsmovie The Odyssey. It's A Lot but it rattles along. Definitely saw cool things I've not seen onscreen before. The Werwulf trailer before it had too much grit for me. But 19% more grime woulda taken this from 4* to 5*. Sam Morton easily my MVP. Odysseus runs away a lot eh?
#lastnightsmovie Treasure Of Sierra Madre. 1st time. It is wayyy more downbeat than expected. The African Queen it is not. Bogart is a paranoid loser beaten down by the world, who succeeds against the odds + brings the roof down on his own head. Totally gripping + fierce dark.
CHANEL BEADS. They just keep getting better. New record, Your Day Will Come has the same title as their last but it seems truer now. Lazy cascading melodies that nod at Cocteaux + The Cure, but in a Liz Phair slacker way. Simple arrangements+ a live outdoors in the sun feel.
Storefront Church's Tendency For Violence is song of the day today on KCRW. Thanks @chrisdouridas www.kcrw.com/shows/todays...
#lastnightsmovie The Outlaw Josie Wales. Josie: Seems any time I get to liking anyone, they ain't around too long. Lone Watie: Seems to me if you dislike anyone, they ain't around too long either. Clint's best movie. No question. Pretty damn funny too.
Hemlocke Springs. This is a splendidly weird wonky pop record. Much deserving its acclaim. Irresistible and fun. And yes, I did notice the way her hair bleeds into the records below it. No. You are stoned.
Sonic Youth + Panda Bear. Not all that mad about their day jobs, but the records they do together are actually magical. Brianwilsony, sure, but most def its own thing. This one too. Into the Luddite (but actually smart) marketing vibes too.
Erik Satie Helping me with my hangover this morning with his twinklings. Came with the Dead school album as "stiffening". Nice.
DEAF SCHOOL. New to me. I'd heard the name + assumed they were metal. They are not. A recent @MOJOmagazine article revealed they were more cabaret Roxy English whimsy. Quite into it. Although I have a house full of early 20s kids + I can see their young eyebrows rising in horror.
I find myself a tad skint and wondered why. It seems I have been overindulging a little. All these latest entries were justified as part of joblots for the shop, so please buy some shizzle so I can justify these purchases. And eat.
#lastnightsmovie Supergirl. Liked this. Not stunning but definitely fun. Milly was great. Seemed a little butchered by test screenings at a guess. Chronological would have been better. Few connective shots clearly chopped. Don't believe the h8ers. Solid.
#lastnightsmovie Night Moves. 1st go - at @storefront_church's behest + it is TITE. Ye Olde Skoole private eye noir shizzle but effortlessly updated to 1975 by Arthur Penn. Somewhat misogynist but the men are assholes too. it just rattles along + Gene is in his Imperial Phase.
#lastnightsmovie The Bride. Bucking the trend for movies to conceal that they are musicals in the promo; this did the opposite. Wasn't sure I'd like it but - dayum - Maggie G's deranged detonation of TimBurtonry is a unique spiky treat. Deranged but in a good way.
Look. It was £3. Perfect nick. Ish. And I am quite enjoying it. So what you gonna do about it?
#lastnightsmovie In The Cut. What The Fuck? Stylish, uncomfortable, unrealistic. An overspiced but undercooked fever dream
#lastnightovie The Lowdown. Ethan Hawke leads a weighty cast in a shaggy dog story about a shitty journalist slob taking punches as he takes down Kyle MacLachlan's Nazis. An InherentVice-y smorgasbord of freaks + weirdos, drive the story pleasingly sideways rather than forward. On Disney.
THE BUG. Gave the neighbour's a lil taste of this earlier. Window shakingly great stuff. Not as good as London Zoo but very little is. Profoundly bassy. Seething + writhing. Rolling + tumbling. Kevin is a national treasure.
#lastnightsmovie Only God Forgives. Had this for ages + avoided it cos I thought I wouldn't like it. But now I have Stage4 Goslingophilia, I went in. As I suspected it's thin, stylish + deliriously unpleasant. So it goes.
#lastnightsmovie Margo's Got Money Troubles. Start watching now. Elle Fanning gets knocked up by her lit prof. Her Hooters waitress mom (M Pfeiffer) + WWF dad (N Offerman) try to help out. Throw in my top showbiz pal Nicole Kidman as a wrestler+ this is touching + unpredictable.
#lastnightsmovie NORMAL. pegged this as maybe too similar to Nobody. But it's not. Trust in Mr Wheatley. Temp small town sheriff realises the whole town is bent. A lot of amusing dismemberment and exploding heads. A lot of fun. If you like that sort of thing. And you do, right?
