So this is a list of beat em ups from a guy here I trust on this genre and while I'm not saying your experiences are invalid cause you didn't play any here (River City Ransom is one of my personal favorite NES games but I like busting it open with grinding) they're a bit more mechanically rich
Genshin Impact having a fan based site that crawls through account data so it can have a way better stat screen than anything in the game is so fucking funny.
💥6) Sweet Tooth A fairly by the numbers Wolf and Cub story with a cool mystery centered around the cause of the apacolypse, which I was much more engaged with than the survival tales. The relationship between Gus and Thomas play out how you'd expect but its still a good one of those stories.
What do you MEAN sidequests tack on 21 hours to the game what in Gods name where they thinking?
🎬14) Milky Highway Came across this indy thing on yt and powered through the whole thing in about an hour. Really fun and good mini series about space delinquents.
🎬13) 12 Angry Men I actually watched this before Planet of the Apes. Which is upsetting cause I missed my chance to make my 12th movie 12 Angry Men. Even though it is. Anyway. Classic. I can see why this caused "The 12 Angry Men" episode to become a trope on syndicated tv.
This is also how I learned they were churning these out back then too
🎬12) Planet of the Apes I feel like the ending twist has kinda culturally overshadowed how the original movie is a really fun sci-fi space adventure first and foremost. They really don't make them like this anymore.

I continue to search for a second person who has seen Ace Lightning.
Really can't overstate how much this is just a series of perfect jokes back to back every panel.
💥5) Cheetah & Cheshire Rob the Justice League This comic rules it kicks so much ass. Cheetah gets washed in a lot of JL stuff so it's very nice they gave her a story about robbing the watchtower blind it feels like sweet revenge.

They got the Japanese styled peanuts in the dollar store at worknext to now I'm so glad I can get these from a place that's not a Lowes 29 miles away.
Ah-HA! I bought it AFTER it came out so I got the version with it bundled in.
🎬11) Ocean's Eleven Watching a heist movie from the 60s where the "forming the team" segment is half the movie and is mostly the guys jib jabbing and singing is very funny. Black face scene is wild. Incredibly funny ending. I get not vibing with it but I liked this.

🎮13) Ace Combat 5 - The Unsung War I feel like the XP system is a major misstep I basically didn't get a new plane from that system for the entire campaign but it's still fun and I found favorites eventually (Let's go Raptor!!!)
📚3) I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream The brevity of this story honestly makes me appreciate how you could probably do tons and tons of variations on this before you'd ever need to subvert it by making him uwu not that bad feelings hug man.
📚2) Monstrous Regiment What a fun book! What a fun FUN book. A riff on Mulan that also happens to be gay, pro trans masc, funny as hell AND criticizes religious fundamentalism and the military. Full Metal Jacket but with a platoon of women in disguise makes for an extremely fun time.
