#SafetySunday 👀 Make fence checks part of your daily routine. 🌧️ Humid/wet/windy weather can cause fence shifting or damage. 🐇 Critters may dig holes under fence. 🔐 Model locking the gate for your kids. Explain each time why you do it. Use padlock or combo lock not just latch. No ai #DogSafety

Newly acquired dogs & dogs w/ a caregiver while family is away are often lost this way: •Wait weeks to walk new dog if possible. •Practice leash walks in house/yard. •Double leash •Instruct caregiver on safety. •Often heard: “they never wandered off before” or “they always came back before” until …

Recently adopted 12 1/2 year old Mackie is loving life in his new home! I think his person had the adoption form signed before Mackie was even out of his transport crate! He follows her everywhere and his favorite part of the day is tv and cuddle time. 💞🥰

💥 Try to go out earlier & hourly so if someone sets off firecrackers, your dog’s bladder is mostly empty and you can ride it out indoors. Go out with your dog, double-leash, go back in asap if there‘s a bang. Housetraining lapse: no big deal. Noise phobia: very big deal. #StolenLand #NoCelebration

Safety prep: • Anxiety meds 💊 • Secure fitting collar + ID tag • Double-leashed walk • 🚽 outing before dusk • Accompany outside • Bring scared dog in asap • Block exits • Quiet space away from 🪟&🚪 • Prep kong, chews, high value treats, Snuffle/lick mat • 💥 then treat • Comfort them if it helps them

This was my boy’s self-chosen safe spot when he arrived. The bottom shelf of a nightstand.💓 Animals need a place where they feel safe, with: 🛏️ comfy bed/blanket 🌬️ Adaptil diffuser 🔇 noise buffer 😋 food dispensing toy, snuffle mat, lickmat, chew Allow free access to the safe spot. Never force it.

⚠️ Don’t assume your dog will stay close even if they did in the past. Think how difficult it will be to search woods, property, campground for days/weeks/months/years; and sightings unlikely. Leash=💕 Watch for lost animals on your travels. Post sighting day/time/location to area lost animal sites.

Pupmazing #SeniorSaturday news, friends, I’m adopted at age 12.5 years!! I met an adopter who dearly loved 2 previous #MnSheltieRescue Shelties.
