A fine day for some chilly July afternoon baseball. And the Giants lost trying to appeal a called third strike when they didn’t have any challenges left, which is the perfect distillation of the 2026 San Francisco Giants.
I’m supposed to be running in my sixth marathon right now, but life stuff has wrecked my training this year. Had to defer until next year. So now I’m here instead, doing track work and pretty much starting over at square one. Giddy up.
Nobody said they had to be new movies. What a time to be alive.
I look forward to the inevitable movie about how these fairly basic scoreboards saved this entire town.
Who’d have thought eating a salad would ever become a game of gastrointestinal Russian roulette? Oh well, I guess danger is on the menu for lunch today. YOLO.
This chicken parmesan is my favorite meal of the year because it means that I’ve survived planning and executing yet another graduation ceremony for our 20 postgrad programs. This was a bear because of some personal stuff, but now I can not think about it again until next year.
Happy 25th anniversary to my beautiful bride! I can't believe it's been that long, but I'm looking forward to the next quarter century.
On the ground in Phoenix where it’s a dry 88° at eight in the morning. Glad I’ll be long gone before they hit their high of 107° today.
I like to think I can relate to today’s youths, but my childhood had things like Cloris Leachman and Harvey Korman headlining a film about a sentient VW Beetle cavorting around Latin America paired with a cartoon featuring Mickey Mouse disco dancing.
The loud disco music blaring from this otherwise empty airport terminal restaurant feels particularly aggressive at 4:30 in the morning.
Our little girl is now a high school graduate! So proud of her and looking forward to everything yet to come.
I’m all for keeping passengers informed, but pushing back my departure three minutes on a flight four months from now doesn’t seem like something I needed a notification for.
Part chihuahua, part little old Eastern European grandmother
Lord, it’s as old as I am. And it still has its catalog card taped inside.
I have acquired my large print copy of Firefox. And apparently it’s the last copy the library system has. An enormous responsibility has been thrust upon me.
Most exciting development at the ballpark this year has been the appearance of this jug of spicy brown mustard. Finally us third deck plebeians can eat our tube steaks like kings.
This new generation just wants to be freed from the shackles of close-minded tradition imposed by their stuck-in-the-past elders and be allowed to fully embrace the futuristic and modern ideas of medieval peasantry.
Guy behind me wants to know why we don’t just go around the fire trucks. Uh, sir, that’s not how rails work.
Last night, my daughter had her senior prom. Still hard to believe this little one will be off on her own at college in just a couple of months. Not hard to believe she’s the ringleader and chief mischief maker in her BFF squad. Thats who she’s always been.
Today in exciting old man news: My large print edition of the 1977 techno-thriller “Firefox” is ready to pick up at the library.
I’m in town, the Rockies are in town, so why not? My first game at Coors Field in about 15 years.
It’s incredibly liberating to reach the “fuck it, I’ll pay extra for the seat with all the leg room” stage of life.
