**Prosecutors have until 10/9. Mangione’s lawyers until 10/30 to respond.
Luigi Mangione’s team complains that there will be no overflow room for his trial and wants a list of reporters set to cover it, objecting to “any process where the Court and the (DA’s office), directly or indirectly, hand-pick the reporters...” Who might they want on the list?
SDNY Judge Hellerstein just scheduled Nicolás Maduro’s trial for June 1. He will consider the deposed Venezuelan leader’s bid to get the case thrown out on sovereign immunity grounds in the coming months, and next hold oral arguments on Nov 17.
James Barnacle from the FBI NY field office said the suspect, Andrew Arrabaca, told authorities after his arrest that he was targeting the building. The lone civilian injured was here for an asylum hearing, which Barnacle remarked was “quite unfortunate but quite ironic.”
Ari Shtein writes for the Yale Daily News. His last piece was about what he described as discriminatory hiring practices in academia, biased against white men. He’s retained Priya Chaudhry, who represented Jonathan Majors and Paul Haggis. Her statement below.
Breaking: Judge Lewis Kaplan has ordered the release of $5 million+ in damages owed to E. Jean Carroll by Donald Trump. Trump failed to convince the judge to delay the payment. This comes more than three years after he was found liable for sexual assault.
Donald Trump’s lawyers, arguing against E. Jean Carroll getting paid despite SCOTUS roundly rejecting his appeal, cite ... Michael Cohen, who previously celebrated the damages awarded to Carroll and criticized Trump as a “civilly convicted rapist”
They didn’t have access to their phones in custody and were delighted to hear the world got their message. No wedding plans shared, but Nikolau said she hopes it’s in New York.
Daredevil lovebirds Angelina Nikolau and Ivan Kuznetsov, charged with burglary & other offenses, batted off questions until asked whether the power of love — or love of power — was on display in court. “It’s the most powerful power, love,” Kuznetsov said. “We believe in love.”
Kagan: “I’m not sure what to call a remnant of a remnant, but that is what the Court has left today. And the result will be what Justice Breyer warned of: a legal regime increasingly unable to stop political corruption and thus to preserve our institutions’ democratic legitimacy”

Luigi Mangione was MIA at his highly anticipated hearing this morning because the Manhattan DA forgot to ask the MDC to bring him to court. “Mistakes happen,” his attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo graciously concedes.
Last night’s lightning storm, shot on my banged up, 4 year old iPhone, which I refuse to be gaslit into upgrading

“I’m saying fuck Brian Thompson. I don’t give a flying fuck he died,” says Ashley Rojas, wearing her press badge provided by @mayor.nyc.gov. Lena Weissbrot adds that Thompson’s teenage sons “are better off without him” and should “enjoy the blood money.”
The future of journalism? Credentialed members of the New York City press corps came to Luigi Mangione’s hearing today to support the defendant they’re purportedly reporting on and to promote jury nullification “to the most cucked and submissive population in all of human history”
DA Alvin Bragg says he is weighing whether to try the charge against Weinstein for a third time in consultation with Mann. Several jurors declined to comment outside the courthouse. An alternate I spoke with said he didn’t know how he would have voted and that the evidence was tough to analyze.
Desperately need this fashionable midi skirt emblazoned with Cillian Murphy’s face
We’ve been training for this perp walk our whole careers… The stone-faced SantaCon leader Stefan Pildes leaves the SDNY after his release on a $300K bond, refusing to say whether he fears he’ll get coal for Christmas or will feature on Santa’s naughty list.
