Ennie award-winning TTRPG designer. Shanty Hunters, Ballad Hunters, Nations & Cannons. Historically grounded RPG content at . U.S. Navy veteran. Minneapolis (ICE out!). He/him.
At Gen Con, I got to run a whole bunch of Nations & Cannons from @flagbearergames.bsky.social. Different parties rescued spies, blew up ships, and accidentally burned down New York City!
At Gen Con, I got to play the Miners in a wonderful game of Beak, Feather, and Bone by @possibleworlds.bsky.social at Games on Demand! Our future was terrible and tragic. We really tried to create a workers’ paradise, but the cards were against us.
I don’t often do high-level adventure hooks on the blog, but an enigmatic figure in the translation-mangled ‘Apocalypse of Abraham’ was too convoluted to pass up! #ttrpg moltensulfur.com/post/messiah...
This week in Dragonbane, we had to negotiate how to split a treasure with another adventuring company. I’m not entirely convinced the split we agreed to was fair, and it remains to be seen whether one side will betray the other before all this is over.
My tomato seedlings this year have had a rough start to life. We’re down to fifteen, and I’m hoping they stay strong in this harsh and unforgiving world (the pantry).
I was transcribing some songs recorded for promotional purposes (Kickstarter launches TOMORROW!) and accidentally took a Brooding Serious Artist selfie. bit.ly/4sc4MLb
The blues standard ‘Stagolee’ was based on a real murder, and is super gameable! #ttrpg moltensulfur.com/post/that-cr...
A closing note: Operation Metro Surge is, officially, over. But ICE is still prowling our streets. The detainee flights are way down, but they’re still happening. Minnesota scored a huge victory, but the fight isn’t over.
The difference between the peak and the numbers in late January and early February represents *people not abducted*. We’ll never know specifically who among our neighbors didn’t get abducted because we stood up. But we know it was a lot of them. You CAN successfully resist this regime.
You can see the impact of Minnesotans’ response to ICE on the graph. The end of the spike of detainees on flights was January 14th. Once Minnesotans got organized, we went from 150–250 detainees flown out of MSP each day to 60, then to 30, then to 20.
You see the surge in ICE presence on the graph—remember there’s a delay between someone being abducted by ICE (more often than not someone here in the country legally) and them being put on a plane to Texas or wherever. The first day with two flights was January 6th.
In December, the number of ICE and CBP agents in our streets began to grow, as part of “Operation Metro Surge.” You can see the flights getting more frequent. Minnesotans began responding, laying the groundwork for what would happen next.
Our characters in Changeling: the Lost got roped into investigating a weird new cryptid outside Columbus, OH when the Winter Court used the ancient parliamentary procedure “no nose goes” and we were too slow to put our fingers on our noses. #ttrpg
Shoutout to this Wikipedia article for using the word "eponymous" in two different places in this sentence, to refer to two different things, but using the word well both times.
I want to brag on my employers, Flagbearer Games. They sent me my author copy of The American Crisis: War in the North. They also sent my wife an author copy.
We played Ten Candles for Halloween! Due to a remarkable streak of rolls and alignment of character traits, we only ever extinguished two candles. The remaining eight had to be left to burn out on their own. #ttrpg
This year’s best trick-or-treater was a child dressed as Saul Goodman. I blurred his face because, y’know, child.
At Game Hole Con, I got to play Pirate Borg! Look how pretty! #ttrpg
At Game Hole Con, I got a chance to play the Waking of Willowby Hall — with Shadowdark rules! Super fun, and the GM brought an RIP stamp for dead characters. #ttrpg #shadowdark
At Game Hole Con, I played Rebels of the Outlaw Wastes by @nerdypupgames.bsky.social. First impression: ooh, when I level up I get to put stickers on my character sheet!
I made a long weekend to sneak away and go camping.
