Oh, and Rizo used campaign money to pay a sponsorship fee to the Christian Family Coalition of Florida — a group that explicitly works to push "pro-family legislation" into government. That is Christian nationalist language. This man wants to oversee 350k kids in one of the most diverse counties.

Another Randy Fine bill is dead. This was specifically so that pride flags cannot be flown in municipal buildings, schools, city halls, etc. Keep up the calls, emails, and testimony!

SB 94, the bill by Randy Fine to lower the age of gun purchases from 21 to 18 has officially died in the Senate. Since bills need a House and Senate version to become law, this bill will not pass this session.

When we when we say that school vouchers defund public schools, this is what we mean. The $48 million deficit (third column 24/25) is passed on to #Florida school districts. This directly impacts teacher pay, student outcomes, programs, services, etc. #PublicSchools

Here are some talking points for why this is a bad bill.

SB 140 by Don Gaetz, HB123 by Andrade. Titled Education. We oppose. Overview: These bills propose various educational reforms, including allowing municipalities to apply for job engine charter schools under certain conditions, requiring school boards to submit 5-year plans before acquiring real property, and prohibiting property acquisition if district enrollment has declined in the preceding five years.
Impact: Fails to ensure equitable funding for district schools, school accountability reforms, student health, mental health support, and curriculum inclusivity. It prioritizes charter school expansion over public school investment, lack of student-focused provisions, and insufficient transparency in school choice and accountability.
Talking Points:
• Florida PTA supports strong public education systems that equitably serve ALL students, not policies that divert funds and public investments away from public schools.
• These bills prioritize charter school expansion at the expense of traditional public schools, exacerbating funding gaps and resource disparities.
• These bills fail to ensure charter schools meet the same standards as district-run schools in terms of student outcomes, transportation, financial transparency, and oversight of public goods.
• Rather than expanding charter schools with taxpayer money, Florida should focus on improving public school funding, reducing class sizes, and increasing access to mental health resources.
• These bills if passed would potentially create unnecessary costs for parents and taxpayers, including transportation when drivers are already in shortage for our public schools.
• These bills promote fewer educational options, less funding, and higher student to teacher ratios, and could worsen educational inequalities rather than comprehensively addressing them,

Below is a list of things not currently required in Private schools that accept vouchers. Most of them are also not required in Charter Schools; things like being able to provide support for kids with IEP's/504's.
