This severe and widespread heatwave - the hottest June in Western Europe on record -was worsened by the burning of fossil fuels. When I launched my campaign calling on the government to name heatwaves and save lives in January, it was 44°C in Melbourne.
It’s time to fix HECS! Join the campaign: moniqueryan.com.au/fix-hecs
The New York Times covers the increasing mental health impact of youth gambling.
Disappointing to receive an inadequate response from the Minister for Aged Care & Seniors regarding the integrated assessment tool. Kooyong community member Graham Crossan is living with MND. He needs 24 hour care but the IAT has twice decided he's not eligible for the highest level of support.
Back in Parliament House for another big week, here’s what I’m up to ✅
Tomorrow, we'll be legislating on illegal tobacco imports. I'll be moving an amendment to stop politicians and political parties from accepting money from the tobacco industry. Let's see how people vote on this one.
Very pleased to see the government adopt an amendment I put forward to improve protections for small businesses in the proposed tax reforms.
Last tickets available! Energy is the backbone to our economy and shared prosperity. So, in a global fuel crisis triggered by Trump’s war with Iran, how do we secure energy independence and abundance? What are the big lessons for Australia and the Albanese government?
Jacinta Allan seems to be actively trying to lose the November state election. Victoria is dispirited, labouring under enormous debt, failing to deal with corruption and crime…
When you pay off a credit card or mortgage, the bank can’t charge you interest on repayments you’ve already made. That would be illegal. But when the government does it, it’s fine and normal. Sign my petition today to fix HECS. We've done it before, let's do it again.
One Nation says they want to tax gas when it gets them a headline. But when it comes to putting your money where your mouth is, they’re missing in action.
Almost 3 million 🇦🇺 woke up today owing more on their HECS debt. The HECS system is broken, and the only way we can force change is by applying pressure on the govt. Join my campaign. www.moniqueryan.com.au/fix-hecs
In 2029–30, students and graduates will pay more in HECS indexation than multinational gas corporations pay in tax on our oil and gas. Let that sink in. Australians deserve a fair share of our natural resources, and a government with the courage to stand up for them.
It's a terribly sad day for Australia with the passing of Neale Daniher. Neale was a truly remarkable, courageous advocate who dedicated himself to raising awareness and improving treatment of motor neurone disease.
My statement in response to media commentary surrounding the potential establishment of a new political party.
Time’s up. The Albanese Government must do better, to stop Australians being the world’s biggest losers, with gambling losses of $87 million every day. We must ban gambling ads and establish a national regulator.
Nothing says “regeneration” quite like wheeling out Tony Abbott. 🦖 Can’t blame him for dreaming, but ladies… it might be time to #putoutyourironingboard.
Today is World Ovarian Cancer Day and I’m very proud to support @witcheryfashion and @ocrf's White Shirt Campaign. Ovarian cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting Australian women, with almost 2,000 women diagnosed each year.
For the past six months, I’ve campaigned every week to make the government understand that ‘Medical Research Matters’. In next week’s budget, we’ll find out whether they agree. Have I succeeded? Will we hear Jim Chalmers say the magic words next Tuesday?
The Japan PM is in town to twist the government's arm just as the campaign to fairly tax our gas exports gains real momentum. Coincidence? I don't think so. There’s plenty of hot air in the debate about gas exports, particularly where Japan is concerned. Let’s set the record straight.
Pleased to donate blood this morning at my local clinic, Camberwell Lifeblood. Giving blood is one of the simplest ways we can look out for each other. A single donation can help save lives in emergencies, surgeries & cancer treatment. If you’re able to give, you can make an extraordinary difference
It’s a year today since the 2025 election. It’s an incredible honour and privilege to represent the Kooyong community in the federal parliament. I’m forever grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who worked so hard in the election campaign, and to my wonderful 2025 EO and campaign teams.
It’s raining cats and dogs in Kooyong this morning! For anyone braving the conditions and keen to chat, I'm helping out at the Servants Community Housing stall at the Hawthorn Makers Market. Heaps of beautiful Mother’s Day gifts and other good stuff here, and it's on until 3pm. Come say hello!
The new Australian Tertiary Education Commission will oversee our university system. Unfortunately, one thing it won’t do is look at student contributions, the biggest driver of the HECS crisis.
In the survey, we also asked what your biggest concerns are on housing. Top 3: reducing intergenerational inequity, improving housing affordability & increasing housing supply. Thanks to all who took part. I look forward to advocating for these changes on behalf of the people of Kooyong in Canberra.
The results are in, and the message is clear. Kooyong backs changes to negative gearing & the capital gas tax discount applied to property investment.
Kooyong is one of the electorates benefitting most from the current tax incentives targeted at property investors—like negative gearing, and capital gains tax. So, with the Albanese Government indicating it is looking at changes to these tax settings, I was keen to know what you thought.
