After about an hour, I removed the tape and began scraping and trimming the binding, taking care to leave the nubs at the end of the frets. Had a couple little patches to make, using shavings and acetone to make a putty. So far, the result looks good.
Replacing the binding on the fingerboard. Split a piece of binding, taped it down, and wicked acetone into the joint to glue it. The insulin syringe is the best tool I have found for this operation.
More work on the mandolin. Cut a piece of binding to replace a missing piece, used acetone and a small syringe to glue it in place and then taped it down.
