I ordered myself a cameo pep talk from Miriam Margoyles and it’s bloody beautiful. Sweary of course, but sentimental and so lovely. Didn’t expect it to make me cry at 1am… love her.
This is Mabel, she belongs to my friends, they said sure take Mabel on your run/hike this morning. Mabel had other ideas.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how the pressure on women to look a certain way feels like it’s come full circle. So this is a short illustration…
Rescue dogs don’t hand out trust freely. Martha had a horrendous start in life and still struggles to trust people. This morning she decided I was safe enough to climb onto the bed for a big cuddle. Her owners were thrilled as she doesn’t even do that with them. What an enormous privilege, I melted.
I’m beginning to think, with this judgmental look, that Martha may just be my spirit animal.
I don’t think I realised quite how much I needed to step away from life for a bit. Since bereavement leave I’ve not really had any proper time off, just kept going. Quiet days, good food, countryside, and my most trusted people dropping by has done me the world of good. I could do with more of it.
Halfway through my stay here and I’m starting to think I was never really built for constant noise. Give me quiet countryside, dogs, horses, good food to cook, books to disappear into, music good movies and my favourite people coming to visit me. It’s been bloody lovely, honestly.
I’m beginning to think my cause of death one day will be laughing so hard I keel over at a dog being scared by its own fart. How do I know this? Because it was touch and go just now especially when the other dog was also startled and barked at the first dogs flatulence…
I’m in the countryside for a week with ponies and golden retrievers and an m&s food shop 10 minutes away. My soul is the closest to happy I’ve been since I was last at a gig.
Dyed my hair black again, oh she’s back. Or something similar. Either way I feel much more like I look myself again.
I appreciate scientific curiosity, but we’re drifting alarmingly close to necromancy with extra gluten. Imagine surviving 5,000 years, defeating time itself, only to end up as someone’s £8.50 sourdough toast.
More recently I spent a lot more than I ever usually would on a haircut by a “celebrity” hairdresser to cheer myself up 100% was worth it - obsessed. I always find hair salons intimidating and not my style of people. Heavy metal hairdresser, Simon Tuckwell was exceptional and we had a right laugh.
Visited a friend earlier, I was a bit tired after a relentless day of work, casually glanced to the side as I waited for the door to open and promptly shit myself.
A culmination of world shittery, sheer disappointment in humans who should know better and humungous clouds of grief have put me in the worst mood today. Taking my furry friend Ziggy out for the biggest walk will hopefully help.
Staying with one of my closest friends this weekend and her 10-year-old nephew is starting his Tolkien journey with this beautiful old graphic novel edition of The Hobbit. An excellent introduction, I’d love to be reading this for the first time again.
Tempted to play lovely gentle Lego games all day with my friends wife rather than face up to adult realities of family politics and mums ashes interment. Being a grown up sucks
We watched Death Stalker (2025) and it absolutely went for it; brilliant creatures, gloriously over the top, gore and effects that felt lovingly, almost artistically unhinged. Proper feral energy. No restraint, no apologies, it’s very self aware. Sick. Made me giggle a lot, highly recommend.
There are some labradors that become guide dogs, detection dogs, insanely smart…then there’s Mabel who just threw a strop because she’s not allowed to steal the hot cross buns in the bakery or have any breakfast pastries..
If you like Charlie Cox, don’t let that trick you into watching his canine rom-com ‘Merv’ with Zooey Deschanel (being Zooey Deschanel). It has no rom, no com, just relentless overt product placement and existential regret. Charlie is trying, as is this t-shirt. The film however, is not.
Watching sheep give birth, petting and bottle feeding lambs and giving scritches to calves on a Monday night is shamelessly wholesome and I’m goddamn here for it.
Spent a LOT of money on a haircut by one of my fav “celebrity” alternative hairstylists this weekend too, as you do…
Happy Daredevil Born Again Season two day in the UK to all who celebrate…AND we get a Punisher special at the end of this run…excellent.
