We are advocates for more frequent, reliable & integrated transit networks for riders across Southern Ontario. 🚍🚊🚆🚇 🔗 Links:
It appears St Clair Old Weston station has officially been renamed Stockyards Station. Bloor Lansdowne has been renamed to Junction Triangle GO station.
Metrolinx has signed a $4.32 billion contract to build 3km of tunnel and 2 underground stations between Gerrard and Minton Place Portal. At $1.4 billion/km for civil works (not even the full price!), this is one of the worst value subway contracts in world history.
The FIFA World Cup was hosted in Toronto this summer, bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors to watch the games. Now that the World Cup is over, what lessons can the City take from hosting the tournament, and how can it make transit better long after the final whistle? Link in bio.
Become an advocate for better transit! 🚊 Join a growing movement of riders working to build more connected and reliable transit networks across Southern Ontario. 🔗 Visit moretransit.ca to learn how to get involved.
How does the "subway" portion of Line 5 compare to the surface section? Mount Dennis -> Laird (subway) - 10.3km - 12 stations (860m avg spacing) - 20 mins (31km/h avg speed) Laird -> Kennedy (surface) - 8.7km - 12 stations (725m avg spacing) - 29 mins (18km/h avg speed)

Some good news from the TTC's upcoming board meeting documents. Metrolinx has opted into the Automatic Train Control contract option awarded on Wednesday for the Scarborough Subway Extension. The extension will have modern signalling from opening unlike originally planned.
Toronto's new LRT lines are significantly faster than when they opened. Line 5 riders are saving 8 minutes on average for trips from Mount Dennis -> Kennedy compared to opening. Finch LRT riders are saving 15 minutes on average for trips from Finch West -> Humber College. 1/2
Stairs are now being formed in the Dundas West - Bloor station tunnel connection. Construction of the tunnel is scheduled to be completed sometime later next year
Reminder that today is the last day to fill out the survey for the Downsview EA, which proposes the road designs to be built through the former airport (including curbside bus lanes on Dufferin). www.toronto.ca/community-pe...
🚆 The GO Train is back in Stratford! After years without rail service since the pilot service to London was cancelled, GO trains are once again connecting Stratford to the regional network. This marks an important step toward providing more transportation options for residents and visitors alike.
ICYMI: We're looking for 2 leaders for these positions: 🚇 Lead, Connect Downsview: Advocate to extend the Sheppard Subway into the Downsview Airport redevelopment lands. 🏙️ Lead, TOCs: Champion transit-oriented development, pedestrian-first urban design, and mixed-use communities. Apply today!
We're looking for someone to help lead our campaign to bring the Sheppard Subway west into Downsview Airport as part of the Sheppard Subway Extension project. The airport is currently a blank site, and is set to house 110,000 people within the next 25 years.
🚇 Have you ever thought your transit network could be better? You're not alone. From improving service and connectivity to supporting transit-oriented communities, we're working to make transit work better for everyone. If you're interested in transit or community advocacy, join us!
We are very happy to see that bus lanes will be built into the design of the Dufferin Street extension through Downsview from day one. Consultations for the new road designs through the Downsview development are taking place over the next few weeks. www.toronto.ca/community-pe...
Take a look at these new renders for the soon to be under construction Kitchener Central Station.
We have the power to improve our transit networks. ✊ Service disruptions are relentless. Frequencies are reduced. Fares are constantly rising. Together, we can demand the reliable, accessible, and affordable transit our communities deserve. 🔗 Click the link in our bio to join us!
The reason we are going for this half solution comes back to cost, our PED installation is expected to cost 10x more than comparable European projects. When asked about the high costs, TTC staff said costs were in line with NYC (the world's most expensive city to build transit) 3/3
We're very disappointed to see that the initial pilot project to install platform edge doors on the subway has been downgraded to metal fences (seen in NYC), paired with track detection systems. This does not provide the full benefits of Platform Edge Doors. 1/4
Metrolinx is hosting multiple open houses throughout June where you can comment on the designs of Scarborough Subway Extension stations. Dates, locations, and the presentation slides can be found in the link below: www.metrolinx.com/en/projects-...
This is a perfect example of one of the reasons we have absurd transit costs. We can only compare ourselves to other Canadian and American agencies such as the MTA, who consistently have some of the worlds highest construction cost. Platform doors in Europe are 10x cheaper.
A virtual consultation is planned for June 4th, with an in person consultation taking place on June 11th. You can view the project page here: www.infrastructureontario.ca/en/what-we-d... 2/2
Infrastructure Ontario has released their plans for the 680 unit transit oriented community at Martin Grove LRT station. This is 1 of 4 TOCs planned at Eglinton Crosstown West extension stations. This development will have dedicated indoor bike parking for transit riders. 1/2
Why does ION Stage 2 cost 5x more per km than the original project, and as much as subways cost to build 20 years ago? @tritag.ca analyzed the data to find out why, looking through documents containing cost breakdowns for the original project and Stage 2.
Stratford GO train schedule from MPP Matthew Rae Weekday AM: 6:16 -> 7:08 (52 minutes) Stratford -> Kitchener. 7:08 -> 8:47 (99 minutes) Kitchener -> Union Weekday PM: 4:52 -> 6:36 (104 minutes) Union -> Kitchener. 6:36 -> 7:28 (52 minutes) Kitchener -> Stratford. 1/2
Tunnelling on the Ontario Line is officially begun. The downtown tunnels are expected to take 2 years to construct and finish sometime in 2028.
🚀 Canadians have been reaching for the stars, but we're still grappling with the basics like building public transit infrastructure affordably. By reforming procurement, strengthening in-house expertise, and adopting global best practices, we can bring costs down & build the transit we need.
Having full fare integration, which means taking GO within Toronto would cost the same as a TTC fare (compared to double if you take it downtown from Scarborough), can save 30-45 minutes on trips downtown and other parts of the city for Scarborough residents. 7/x
In the meantime, there are two ways to improve transit immediately in Scarborough which are not talked about enough. Bus lanes on every major corridor need to happen ASAP. The city is taking too long implementing rapidTO on these corridors. 6/x
The project in its current form will not substantially improve the transit experience asides from ride quality. So how do we design a project, and think differently about transit in Scarborough to improve it? 2/7
