The tip menu is behind the lil' blue friend in the lower right corner of the title screen btw 😉
*36th birthday (released in 1990) But yeah, Solstice rules! One of those childhood "enigma games" that I took the time to finally learn and play through more recently (with hand-drawn maps). Cool to see in-development footage! Also, amazing Japanese box art by Naoyuki Katoh:
Cool interview... there's lots to chew on, but one thing I'm struck by is *how* devoted Miyamoto is to the idea of capturing a big audience. Surprising in how often he brings it up unprompted as well as how conflicted he seems to feel about it. What would unrestrained Miyamoto be like, I wonder...?
Certified banger from @glovetheglove.bsky.social just dropped!!! First walkthrough to go Double Abyssidian in a single Zol 🎵

Fun fact: Terada previously illustrated Trevor Belmont for a Dracula's Curse feature in Volume 18 of Nintendo Power!
Here's the full key art by Katsuya Terada for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, taken from the website: www.konami.com/games/castle... Featuring Rose Belmont, a new protagonist and the daughter of Trevor Belmont!
That's a nice improvement - trees are tough! It's maybe a little too uniform, though. Trees tend to look better if it's not just one "ball" of leaves, but a clump of different sized balls. Also, if more of the brightest leaves touched, that'd look better imo. Mixed clumpage. Henk Nieborg:
Genuinely, this concern about AI is one of the reasons why I think having friction in video games is good and why it's increasingly important to have games that simply exist instead of catering to our expectations. Reposting this message from Kojima about "pre-digested" art:
I always thought Blaster Master's cutscenes were particularly memorable, especially for being wordless. The music and pacing do a lot of work, but the graphics are also top notch. Longplay: youtu.be/9lSs3PR6rUw?...
I think Kirby's cute, juicy presentation tricks the arcade part of the brain into expecting some frantic action and a harsh timer. It's possible you dislike it extra because of that dissonance. 😅 If you want to play a cute arcade platformer with a round lil' guy, try Liquid Kids!

Yasushi Nirasawa - one of the GOATs of monster design! So many of his monsters are cool head-to-toe, but he could also turn silly ideas, like this watermelon monster, into solid gold with inventive thematic design and asymmetry. Even common decorations like skulls could feel new in his hands.
"Light RPG elements and resource management spice up the brain-stretching core gameplay of this unique 'logic puzzle roguelite', where you have to figure out which treasure chests are lying Mimics." 👍Derek Likes Mimic Logic: store.steampowered.com/curator/4057...
UFO 50 is once again in Frost Fatales and thanks to @theyetee.com and artist @kduffles.bsky.social there's an awesome Alpha tee available as part of the event merch! The UFO 50 Bingo Race is on Saturday, March 14, but the full event begins on March 8! Check it out and get a shirt if you're keen!
While we're celebrating Zelda's 40th, I want to give some love to some of the foundational action adventure games that predated it. Hydlide, in particular, deserves more respect outside of Japan for what it did for the genre in '84 (PC88). Tower of Druaga, Courageous Perseus, Dragon Slayer, Hydlide
Shout out to The Legend of Zelda after 40 years! A game whose sense of exploration and adventure still feels unparalleled to me in many ways. Art scans courtesy of @historyofhyrule.com: www.flickr.com/photos/histo... Hand-drawn map by my dad, from when we played the game together in the 80s.
The Ana Spelunky Youtooz plush went well and she'll be shipping out later this year (ETA April). Thanks to everyone who preordered one and hope you enjoy! It'd be fun to do another - if you're interested, let me know if there's a Spelunky character you'd be excited to see next!
I don't typically put much thought into chain scoring or scoring in beat 'em ups at all, but this one got me hooked on trying to go higher! And it's a free browser game! From the creator of Fight'N Rage. Really impressive PICO-8 graphics, too! 👊 sebagamesdev.itch.io/backstreet-w...
I'll end with some thoughts from Tokuro Fujiwara, the game's director. For sure, I think he and the team nailed the balance of Daimakaimura and everything he hoped for the game is true. 🔗 shmuplations.com/makaimura/ (Thanks to @shmuplations.bsky.social for the translation!)
1cc completed! And only my third time reaching loop 2 on one credit. I played a few runs every day, sometimes credit feeding to practice tricky areas. 'Til the very end, the game loved to throw unexpected scenarios (and weapons) at me, so my heart was pounding when I finally defeated Lucifer! GG!
Big PB today! I made it to the second loop on one credit for the first time! Shout out to the master @aqy.bsky.social, as quite a few of his tips + tricks came in handy. Starting to learn how to beat Red Arremers. Love how they sort of organically throw a little fighting game in there. Masterpiece.
Any advice Tom has on making indie games is worth listening to, but I really want to highlight his thoughts on price point - it's well explained. I do think that the movement to get indies to charge more mostly just hurt new indies - with fewer players, fewer/worse reviews, and lower sales.
Not sure what it means exactly, but the pink-haired female Link that @historyofhyrule.com scanned is wielding that rapier!
