You wait ages for a bus and then...! #ThrowbackThursday this week takes us to 1982, and the Pope's visit to Manchester. Buses were used extensively (to the joy of drivers paid overtime) for transport to and from the site in Heaton Park.

It's time for our #ThrowbackThursday pic, and what a Throwback! This is Saint Peter's Square in Manchester city centre, in 1938. These buses were known as 'Streamliners' and they must have made an impressive sight in their striking red and off-white colour scheme. Sadly, none survive.

Here's an example of the things that we receive. It's a document made by a destination blind manufacturer. with the names needed on a blind for North Western's Wilmslow depot in 1961. How many names do you recognise? We admit we're not sure where 'Stormy Point' is...

An old typed document has on it a list of places to be printed on a destination blind for a bus working in the Wilmslow area. The blind has a long list of names including Wilmslow, Manchester, Macclesfield and obscure places such as Stormy Point and Brook Lane Corner. But it also has some names from places that are further away such as Blackpool, Derby and Leeds.

#ThrowbackThursday this week takes us to King Street, Oldham, watching one of the town's buses in its 'pommard and cream' colour scheme. It's fair to say this scene has changed beyond recognition since.

We thought we'd have a train (or Metrolink) themed #ThrowbackThursday this week. It's June 1990 and the old Bury electric trains are about to end, replaced by Metrolink trams. This is a down-at-heel Victoria station, at a spot that the Victoria Metrolink stop occupies today.

The photographer is inside Manchester Victoria station in nineteen ninety. On the right, in the middle distance, is an orange electric multiple unit train, British Rail five oh four, that's about to depart for Bury. In the foreground, on the track bed there's dirty ballast and a pile of rubble. The station roof is supported by huge red iron columns, but the roof itself is dark and dirty.

It's #ThrowbackThursday, so it's time to bring you a photo from our archives. This week it's a National Express coach arriving at Manchester's Chorlton Street coach station for a trip to Llandudno. We'd love to have a ticket to ride it!

A yellow and black poster advertises a business named Tower Property Company of Whitefield. The poster says that the business offers expert property repairs, pointing, plus gutter and down spout repairs. The slogan on the poster says that our aim is satisfaction through good workmanship.

It's the start of the rush hour for this week's #ThrowbackThursday, and we're watching this bus leave #Oldham garage for a trip to Manchester. The flats at the end of the street are long gone, but the garage itself is still use to house Bee Network buses.

We can't do everything on our own, and we have some brill friends who support us. One of them is Manchester Breakdown Services who regularly help us with moving buses to or from storage, or to a restoration workshop. Thank you to Scott and the crew at MBS.

At the far end of the train we can just see a steam locomotive and, in the distance, a semaphore railway signal set to clear.
