I also have a bunch of songs by Americans that celebrate some of this country’s greatest musical artists, while playing songs that reflect the country as I see it. 2/2
Here’s Rob Hirst playing his solo on “Power and the Passion” at Midnight Oil’s final Chicago show at The Riviera Theatre, June 10, 2022.
The restaurants that come to mind are diners. The Zephyr stands out because of its ice cream deserts. I had many solid sandwiches there, but the ice cream menu was prodigious. Pages of various treats. I loved the Butterscotch Beauty. A Belgian waffle with vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce.
My show notebook is closed for this Saturday. I won't be on @chirpradio.org this morning from 9-Noon (CST). Instead, Steven T. Grady will be there in my stead, a morning DJ on C-H-I-R-P, playing all the cool music for you, wherever you may be. You can tune into Steve at 107.1 FM or chirpradio.org.
I’m going be one tired @chirpradio.org DJ tomorrow morning, as the Swamp Dogg show at Metro ran a bit late.
If only this band was still together. www.discogs.com/master/23142...
Saw a nifty triple bill at the Empty Bottle last night. Toronto’s Cootie Catcher, then Auckland’s Phoebe Rings, and, from Indianapolis, Good Flying Birds.
The latter half of the '90s was a great time for power pop fans (Fountains of Wayne, The Posies, The Shazam, Superdrag, Splitsville, et al). My favorite LP from all this was from this Swedish trio, Melony. Hooks galore.
It's the final day of the @chirpradio.org Fall Fundraising Drive. I'm trying to raise $3000 and get 50 donors. I'm $222 and 10 donors away. Please consider a donation to my fundraising page to get me over the top! CHIRP has been part of my life since 2007, and I believe in our mission. 1/3
The Indonesian retro-soul band Thee Marloes is headlining at The Empty Bottle tonight, a 9 pm show. I’ve got an extra ticket. DM me if interested.
Hey everybody! I'm going to be at the @chirpradio.org table at the Square Roots Fest (which is close to Selzer Library) from noon to 2:30 pm today. Come by to say hi and pick up some free CHIRP swag (this was the table Friday evening, to get an idea of what we offer).
I’ve been waiting over 10 minutes for a train to arrive at the Western Brown Line stop to take me to work.
To take advantage of the success of The Pipkins and The Sweet, EMI budget subsidiary Music for Pleasure released a split LP. It had The Pipkins' hit...and some early flops Sweet recorded for EMI before they moved to RCA and hit with "Funny Funny" and other bubblegum songs.
Jalen Williams fined for wearing t-shirt with f-bomb on it...and that's a Madness shirt! Here's hoping J Dub goes one step beyond with his team to the NBA Finals!
Most of the things I wanted to see were on Friday, so I got a ticket for that day only. To see @sparksofficial.bsky.social and Didjits on the same day, two of my all-time favorite bands, just trips me out.
I just saw that my blurb made it into @mojomagazine.bsky.social last month in the How to Buy Led Zeppelin feature!
Released 31 years after the band's debut, an audacious album belying all that time, and one of the band's masterpieces.
It appears that Bob Odenkirk is the first alum from my college radio station (WIDB, Carbondale's Rock and Soul) to garner a Tony nomination.
What's my favourite acting role by a singer? I have to go with Frank Sinatra, in one of my all-time favorite movies, The Manchurian Candidate.
