Step 3: this is where we get a little unconventional. Instead of carrots we got some beets. Throwing those in there with our san marzano tomatoes, a little Worcestershire sauce and a healthy glug of merlot.
Step 2: browning our meats. Using a 50/50 blend of ground beef and Italian sausage seasoned with salt, black pepper, thyme and red pepper flakes. I usually prefer hot Italian sausage but Kroger was out so I got mild and used the aforementioned red pepper flakes to achieve basically the same flavor.
Making spaghetti bolognese. Step 1: aromatics: diced onions and shallots; minced garlic, olive oil
Pit beef! Charcoal-seared, thinly-sliced (carved with a sort of shawarma-esque method) top round served on a kaiser roll with raw white onion and a type of horseradish mayo called tiger sauce. My second favorite type of roast beef sandwich after the French dip.
I understand why this kind of wording upsets people, and God knows I have a lot of issues with how journalism is taught and subsequently done in this country but using non-commital language re: allegations of serious crimes prior to a conviction is absolutely necessary for legal reasons.
Got myself a machete, finally, to clear some of the wild brush out back that's sprung up on account of all this rain. Gotta say, without question the most fun I have ever had doing yardwork. Would have bought one sooner had I realized it essentially enables one to mow the lawn with a sword.
I did not sleep last night, basically at all, but at least I have A Beast to keep me company as I recover.
"How many decades has it been since we released a title worth a damn?" "Two and counting?" "That's right!"
The peanut butter cheesecake I just baked for my roommate's birthday tomorrow. Not the prettiest but it'll taste beautiful. Gonna go out for some Indian food, go home, get blazed and do unprintable things to this bad boy.
I'm telling my dad about some of my utterly perverse dessert ideas (balsamic vinegar pie, which I already made, solid 8/10, no joke, pictured below) and jalapeno ranch cheesecake (still in the works) and he's alternating between concern, revulsion and feverishly googling how to get me on Chopped.
They seem to have forgotten that there ain't no laws when you're drinkin' Claws.
know where to really go from here. They might still stick the landing, but it feels bad to feel bad about something I once considered one of the most affecting and iconoclastic works of fiction in its medium. Still love this beautiful, fucked-up bastard man, though; that'll never change.
Roommate got this mystery box of Japanese snacks and we've been splitting them. Most of them were okay to great, but this one tastes like Fried Pond with a hint of Florida Porta-Potty Floor.
*Mitch Hedberg voice* "Probiotics are great when you're hungry and you want to eat 100 million of something."
Thinking about this a little more, planning to be more of edgelord than you actually end up being when you sit down to write is very much in the Ennis tradition in that regard.
Tangential, but cult deprogramming as a practice (and this guy specifically) are, in fact, very shady. Basically just a scavenger grift nibbling the scraps of predatory grifts.
Happy 10th birthday to one of the greatest albums of all time, from one of the greatest to ever do it.
