Monica Vitti as Modesty Blaise (1966). This movie is modness in its platonic ideal. Anyway, this still has our girl in a fabulous gold lamé ensemble that includes this magnificent cowl/hood thing that looks like a flattened cone of shame, but very chic.

Photo of the Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC, with the Washington Monument in the distance. It's a perfect spring day, with big, fluffy clouds lazily hanging in the sky. But some freaks, deployed by our demented POTUS, have painted the Pool some hideous color. Also, closer to the viewer, there's a fence keeping people away from one of their country's most precious monuments. It has a dark colored fabric attached like a curtain. Some kind soul has spray-painted, in small, white, precisely spaced letters, "FUCK."

I stopped to describe it in some detail because it kinda hit me emotionally, and I felt obligated to explain its impact to people who couldn't experience it visually like I can.

In the distance, there's our country's ideals (however lackadaisically observed) in the form of the Washington Monument pointing toward heaven with a perfectly gorgeous sky above.

Closer to us, there's the tacky, slapdash painting up of a monument like a country club swimming pool, and an ugly fence with an uglier word added on, like a citizen comment.

Fascinating! No 1960s man raped but all 1960s women were raped. It wasn’t really rape but it happened to every woman and they should have expected it because every man did it, which evens out to “no man really did anything”.
