However, a one-page document posted on the DOJ website early Tuesday includes a sweeping release under which the IRS is “forever barred and precluded” from pursuing “examinations” of Trump, “related or affiliated individuals,” and related trusts and businesses.

The waiver specifically encompasses “tax returns filed before the effective date” of the settlement, which was Monday.

Just before the vast majority of remaining USAID staff will be terminated tomorrow, the acting executioner of the agency sent this wildly insulting, condescending and patronizing email to them and there have been several excellent responses to this ghoul but this is my favorite so far.

As we approach the July 1 transition, I want to extend my gratitude for your dedicated service to USAID and for helping carry out the Administration’s policy directives with the utmost professionalism for the benefit of all Americans and our partners around the world.
I understand that the last six months have created many challenges for USAID staff and their families. Yet, you have continued to embody the highest standards of public service. A successful transition would not be possible without the dedication of USAID staff across the globe and your willingness to share your unique knowledge and expertise. We have been deeply impressed by the resiliency of our Missions and the way in which our staff have supported each other to meet quickly approaching milestones. This work has allowed for the successful transfer of foreign assistance programs to the Department of State. Your extraordinary efforts have not gone unnoticed. We thank you for your contributions and your commitment.
The USAID workforce represents the very best of American values and generosity. That legacy will endure. USAID’s work is not over; its reverberations will be felt in the global communities the Agency has supported, and its mission will be carried forward through the work that continues under the Department of State, reflecting its significance and its enduring value.

USAID’s legacy will also live on through our Memorial Wall, which will continue to stand as a permanent reminder of the service and sacrifice of our fallen USAID colleagues at its new home in the Harry S. Truman building.
On July 1, a significant number of our colleagues will conclude their service to USAID. You should have received an Agency notice with final offboarding guidance, key contact information, and what to expect in the weeks and months ahead. Our goal is to provide as much clarity and support as possible.

On behalf of USAID staff, we write to thank you for your misguided note which you courageously sent 36 hours before most of their computers were scheduled to be wiped, resulting in most of them never seeing it. Lucky them.
We understand that the last six months have created many challenges for you. Destroying 60 years of American good will and power working for petty men with jealous egos must have presented you with many opportunities to do the right thing. However, you manged to not do that time and time again. Your extraordinary efforts have not gone unnoticed; USAID staff and the world will remember. However, your extraordinary efforts will indeed go unrewarded. You will be just one more irredeemable reputation left in the wake of this short-sighted, small-minded administration, struggling to explain that you were just carrying out orders, not unlike the Nazis.
You are correct that the USAID workforce represents the very best of American values and generosity. Like most federal workers, they are moral, principled, and have responded to a higher calling to serve the American people. USAID's workforce embodies the everything you and the administration seek to destroy. They are mirrors, and you cannot bear what you see reflected back to you.
Our fallen colleagues' legacies will live on, but not through any Memorial Wall at the Department of State, USAID's long-time resentful bully. No, their legacy will live on in the millions of lives they saved and in the hearts of their colleagues who respected and loved them. Your legacy will also live on - through the millions of memorials that will be created around the world honoring those who died due to preventable diseases, starvation, and HIV/AIDS; deaths you will have directly caused.
