Neal Statement on Massie Amendment #8 to GOP Foreign Aid Budget Bill

WASHINGTON, DC— Congressman Richard E. Neal released the following statement on the Massie Amendment #8 to the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Appropriations Act:

“The United States remains committed to our strong, strategic alliance with Israel and will continue to defend its sovereignty and right to exist as a secure Jewish state. Providing support for Israel's defense systems, such as the Iron Dome, remains an important priority to protect both American and Israeli interests against those who seek Israel's destruction. This amendment does not change that commitment or our resolve to eradicate Hamas’s reign of terror.

“We also have a responsibility to ensure that governments receiving our aid meet the standard our values and laws require. What we are seeing in the Middle East is not sustainable and demands a new path grounded in peace, security, and the right to self-determination for all. That means delivering urgently needed humanitarian aid to the innocent children and families caught in the violence, pursuing a two-state solution, and confronting both terrorism and the cancer of antisemitism. Only then can we build a safer, more secure, and brighter future for everyone.”

She reiterated she voted for $20 million in an April spending package that is meant to expand the use of body cameras among ICE agents but sought to blame Democrats for government funding impasses in the Republican-controlled Congress earlier this year that she said "delayed" the implementation of the new measures.

Pingree says ICE agents weren’t wearing body cameras at time of shooting
Rep. Chellie Pingree said she is in contact with ICE officials regarding this morning’s shooting in Biddeford but has "learned very little.”

She added it appears the immigration agents involved were not wearing body cameras.

WASHINGTON, DC—Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement marking the six-year anniversary since the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) came into effect:

“When Congressional Democrats secured improvements to the USMCA, we insisted on a meaningful review process because we wanted to set trade policy on a new path: one of evolution. The review was designed to ensure this agreement continued to live up to its fullest potential and grow with the needs of our workers and economy.

“USMCA serves as a stabilizing force for North America and is reflective of the will of Congress. That’s how you strengthen competitiveness and deepen cooperation, rather than scoring cheap political points through an illegal tariff scheme and picking needless fights with some of our closest allies.

“As we mark the beginning of the six-year review, now is the time to pursue serious negotiations with our North American partners. Any updates to USMCA should strengthen outcomes for American workers and manufacturers in the same spirit that garnered support from each end of the political spectrum and brought this agreement over the finish line in the first place.

BOSTON – Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell issued the following statement in response to today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in Trump v. Barbara, upholding the constitutional right to birthright citizenship:

“For more than 150 years, the Fourteenth Amendment has stood as a cornerstone of equal protection under the law, born out of our nation’s fight to end slavery and oppression.

Without the Fourteenth Amendment, I could not have run to become Attorney General of Massachusetts.

Today, the Supreme Court left in place the principle that the President cannot rewrite the Constitution by executive order, and birthright citizenship remains settled law.

I am also mindful that this was a razor thin victory. That should remind all of us that our rights and freedoms are not self-executing. Some continue to test the limits of our Constitution in an effort to narrow who belongs in this country, who gets to fully participate in our democracy, and who gets to make those decisions.

As Attorney General, I will continue to defend the Constitution, the rule of law, and the promise of equal protection as envisioned by my ancestors.”

Also The Times cannot get over how it's reporting about Harvard was either wrong or comically overstated.

Yale also did not draw the scorn or litigation that the administration has directed toward Harvard or the University of California, Los Angeles, both of which have rebuffed Washington’s demands that they pay at least hundreds of millions of dollars to the federal government. After suing the government, Harvard nearly reached a settlement with the administration last summer, only for talks to stall in the months after some administration figures argued the proposed terms were too generous to the university.
