Additionally, the old-growth oak forest in Allgunnen nature reserve is supported by oak tree planting and by bringing in grazing animals that clear the undergrowth from fast-growing tree species that otherwise shade out young oak seedlings. 3/
In Allgunnen, the species-rich mixed forest (dominated by pines) is managed by setting fire to the undergrowth, a method called prescribed or controlled burning which mimics natural #wildfires. While established trees survive these occasional fires, new space is created for specialized species. 2/
While many of the #fires in Southern Europe are raging in areas dominated by artificial pine and eucalyptus plantations, the Allgunnen nature reserve in Sweden demonstrates that - under the right conditions - fire can actually be beneficial for habitat management and wildlife conservation. 🔥🪵🦉🪲🌳🪻1/x
Anyone here with actual real-live experience in building a "climate battery"/geothermal #greenhouse? Bonus if you are at a more Northern latitude with limited winter sunlight (compared to the folks further South who are blessed to be able to run these things year-round tropical) 🌱

135kg of apples 🍎 and pears 🍐 = 90 litres of juice + a nice afternoon 🙂 Glad to have such dedicated people keeping the old juice press going in the neighbouring village. It's a fun place to chat with people while everyone is eagerly waiting for their fresh juice from their own harvest 🌱
Actually we wanted to let the artichokes go to flower in their first season and only start harvesting next year. Wondering whether this artichoke, that was blown over by a storm, is still edible at this stage? Worth the effort for just one? 🤔🌱 #gardeningfeed
End of holidays is much sweeter if you return home and have an evening walk through the overgrown jungle that is your garden, snacking fruit here and there and harvesting some fresh veggies for dinner 🌱🍅🍐🌿 #permaculture #foodforest #gardeningfeed #organicgardening

We're launching #DemolitionAtlasEurope! Across Europe, tens of thousands of buildings are demolished each year. This demolition frenzy has serious social & environmental implications, from enormous CO2 emissions and waste generation to rising rental costs and a loss of cultural heritage. 1/3
Harvest abundance! Black berries, blue berries, plums, apricots... and still so much more to come 🌱 #organicgardening #gardeningfeed #permaculture
Finally built a solid (yet kinda easily removeable) trellis system for the tomatoes on our terrasse 🍅🌱 Will do some experiments with spacing and how to best train one or two stems upwarts before building a proper tomato shed in the garden one day... #gardening #vegetablegardening #organicgardening
We have 10+ varieties. Some already started to ripen 3 weeks ago, others will continue until September
Went shopping!🌱😃 papaya, pepper with edible leaves, a tiny cacao tree, pandan, yellow guava & a few other gems from the incredibly rich selection at www.jungle-leaves.de Their greenhouse is literally filled to the roof with rare (sub)tropical plants, both crop plants and loads of cool ornamentals🤓
