August 15. 2015 Palos Verdes, California Small brush fire in a dry wooded area walking distance from my home. Two CL-215 Canadian fire fighting tanker planes passed over my home to douse the flames. Tail numbers 246 & 247 Thank you Canada.

I put the ornament in a box in the closet and forgot about it (2014). So I just looked for it. I had forgotten that I made two. Far from perfect, but fun.

Here are three of my pieces. I was never successful at blowing thin-glass. You can see each piece is really thick, heavy and a bit 'clunky'.

A 20-year old color photograph of one of our young tabby cats perched between the heavy wrought iron supports of our glass top breakfast table. The camera angle is from below the table looking up at the cat. I think you are right. I believe that once they have reached maturity, they leave the host plant to find a suitably safe location for the metamorphosis stage. I, too, had the Swallowtail caterpillar munching and growing on my Dill plant until one morning it was gone. Same with my monarchs.

2/2 The Painted Lady butterfly migrates northward in California each spring, typically moving from the deserts of northern Mexico through the central valley to Oregon. This migration can involve billions of butterflies, esp after winter rains that promote the growth of food plants for their larvae.

1/2 Most of us humans have no idea what is going on around us in nature. I never paid attention to a common little butterfly until March 15, 2019. I was mountain bike riding and everywhere I went, I was seeing literally thousands of these butterflies all flying in the same direction.
