Once they got it down, they believe she was at least 300 years old. Good we made the decision—she was rotted through the center from the ground to the crown. She will be missed.
We lose this approximately 250 year old beauty today. It was already a sturdy tree when the first member of my family to work these particular fields arrived. The loss feels profoundly personal but is unavoidable. The years haven’t been kind to her.

For your distraction: Both of them are fully grown adults. 🤭 The pupper weighed 6.5 pounds at the vet two weeks ago; cat goes soon but is probably less. They play all the time, clean one another, snuggle, and sometimes sleep together, if the pupper can’t find a lap.
