I've been entrenched with historical gaming over the past few years, but I picked up a new (to me) family style strategy game. Never played a Clank, but this one caught my eye.
Ran across this mahjong table at a local ship. This is crazy cool.

This booty washed up on deck today. Courtesy of @fortcircle.bsky.social - a shiny copy of "The Hunt For Blackbeard"! It's a 2p asymmetric game with a fascinating spin on hidden movement/information, and it explores a slice of history from the golden age of piracy. It's a salty dog!
I didn't realize that Bear Trap, the upcoming @gmtgames.bsky.social title about the Soviet-Afghan War, was a block wargame - at least until I saw the back of the box. I do like block games, and the block "dispositions" are interesting (mobilized, fortified, disordered, etc). Now I'm intrigued!
I tried watching the first couple of episodes of Picard when they came out but it just wasn't doing it for me. Better late than never, I just returned, and am now in season 2. In my opinion it's the best of all the new Trek. Low bar, I know - but I'm enjoying it. Surprise! #StarTrek
I was a huge Firefly fan in the day (I even ran a fan site and edited a Jane Espenson book of short stories), so I'm excited by the news of a possible animated series. Would I prefer live action? YES! If this is well done though... I'll take it. #shiny #BringBackFirefly
Games from @phalanxgames.bsky.social always just LOOK really good. They put a premium on presentation, and that's evident with the box art for "Tora Tora Tora!", which has a lovely linotype quality and also vaguely reminds me of this old poster for the 1970 film.
I thought I was pretty good at Thurn & Taxis but after playing it a few times on BGA, I think I'm missing something. I won a game yesterday, but tanked this one today. Whoa.

That's lovely. This type of birds-eye representation is super immersive and let's me imagine walking around the landscape, even understanding that it's an abstraction of a massive area. I also really like your banners on this track.

Okay, Levy and Campaign... you have my attention. I've been playing these largely multi-handed solo. I haven't yet mustered the courage to play Nevsky or Plantagenet on RTT with people. SHOULD I?!
Baltic Empires looks terrific, and has a great subject. It's sounding very much like an "event" style game where you really need 4 or 5 players for it to shine. Since I don't expect to have that - I'm hoping we get a Rally The Troops implementation!
Dragon Ships & Iron Knights is a new game coming from Legion Wargames that covers a few battles that I've always found intriguing... and were the birth of medieval England. I'm excited to learn more about this one.
I just learned that @25thcentury.games is giving the great Knizia game Tigris & Euphrates their "Ra" treatment, complete with @ianotoole.bsky.social art and, I can only hope, some beautiful chonky wooden pieces? Let's watch!
I've enjoyed this game - there aren't many games that go all-in on the concept of the tech tree quite like Beyond The Sun - but I wish it had just one extra layer. Just a little something to help immerse the players.
