While I won't be a gencon, BREAK!! will be with a bunch of other great games at @ipr.bsky.social's Booth (449) so you can grab a copy there if you like! www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Gen-Co...
I've been filling out bits and bobs for START and one thing I've been refining is a list of the bonus XP you can get for certain things in the book's main scenario. There is already a guide for this in the core rules, but some specific examples can't hurt! (Slight out of context spoilers I guess)
I was organizing some of my notes and forgot I did a set of joke alignments for BREAK!! a while back
In our most recent kickstarter update we featured a little peek at the vedma - wizened but powerful casters that live in secluded areas. They can be helpful (providing guidance, healing, crafting) or troublesome (turning people into poppets, crushing them physically and mentally with magic, etc)
Lest one might thing I'm being too cheeky here, Potions as soft drinks is already established as a thing in the BREAK!! core rulebook
Croak is such a big noise, which a canon would also make, it makes sense! I may need to workshop it a bit though as I just remembered Croaks were the name we gave to the toad folks - though giving him a buddy that has a portable canon does have a sort of "Ninja Turtle badguy" feel to it I like...
I realize this is one of the most damming ways I've ever described an antagonist (From START - our new adventure/supplement thingamabob)
Doing another editing/revision pass on START Adjusting those ever important Skeleman numbers
I suppose the influence is obvious if you look at how the maps in BREAK!! turned out.
I was thinking that if I ever wanted to do a "Megadungeon" style thing, it would likely be a series of connected Adventure Sites that the players could venture through to eventually get to some important, load-bearing place and realized that I was just thinking of Super Mario World maps again
I have seen a couple posts on trpgs to play that aren't D&D (for obvious reasons) and I'm always hesitant to chime in. There is always the chance something you liked in your favorite game isn't the same in ours, for example. But hey, if you want to give BREAK!! a look I'd be happy for that!
One of my favorite things to answer is why Sages can use Mechanical Missile Weapons (Guns) - and I can wax a little bit about I think it suits them to have a fallback weapon that's a little more complex than it needs to be, but mainly it's because I like the ending to the movie Wizards.
I can't believe I did this whole thread and forgot to mention the Secret of Nimh. There isn't as much to pull from it one for one obviously (you're not playing Mice in BREAK!! etc) but its imagery and themes of old magic and wicked men trying to claim it could make for some great inspiration.
I am pretty excited to read this one as someone who learned about the concept of war crimes from playing Final Fantasy IV at the tender age of nine years old.
...a band of those powered and corrupted by the Shadow Blight (which is kind of like a magical version of Resident Evil's T-Virus, I guess)
DAWN OF THE FINAL DAY If you dig into the expanded setting material of START, you can help this brave, but under-budgeted order of lantern bearing knights take on...
Cracked open "A Land once magic" and got greeted by this fella, 10/10, extremely strong opening (It's a very cool game)
Two days! As a gift for your attention, behold the Shroomin - a collection of mushroom folk of varying size and danger level.
Picked up some mutual's games this weekend and per tradition I have taken pictures of them being friends with BREAK!!
There are 7 days left for START's kickstarter! This is the first official published adventure for BREAK!! and also a companion book containing new rules and detailed setting information. There are lots of places to explore and interesting folk to meet! www.kickstarter.com/projects/gre...
Astyanax could be charitably called middling, but as a kid I was absolutely obsessed with the anime styled cutscenes between each level.
Just double checking a few things and I'm reminded that one of the bests thing about creating your own setting for your own game is you can just name things whatever and no one can stop you
BEHOLD, A MERE GLANCE AT THE FANTASTIC TREASURES TO DISCOVER IN START, THE NEW COMPANION BOOK AND ADVENTURE FOR THE BREAK!! TABLETOP RPG
I'm really sorry this has been me the entire month - but In my defense it is a great way to grab the BREAK!! core rules and a GM screen alongside a hefty new companion book and adventure combo- www.kickstarter.com/projects/gre...
