Congrats to the new journal @rindandroot.bsky.social, I "met" through @saloneurope.bsky.social. Debut today! I'm in it! So pleased to see this piece, Cartoon Dogs, find its home here. I'm on page 34. I think it's my lucky number. Gorgeous #collage there with my #writing too. Primarily #pink.
“I’m not bothered at all to learn I’m pure fiction… I don’t seem to age…” @megshaffer you’ve done it again! I’m 35 pgs into The Book Witch and hooked.
Yesterday marks 34 years with #T1D & today I’ve learned the term #cripcollective. Disability is such a fraught, important subject. #shedlight on it, writers. And #publishers! No one is alone. No one.
Writing in Florida, about Florida. My journals are warping in the humidity. I suspect my stories warp too. Hopefully in a good way.
Also, here -- cake. My best friend from high school's kid got married this past weekend too. I'm posting this stuff to Insta, but now that I've brought it up here, I just thought you BlueSKy pals might also like cake. 😍
Pic from Cambridge train 2 days ago. My 2013 novel #RAPESEED was inspired by a similar English countryside view 27/04/2003. To celebrate the book's conception date, the UK ebook will be 99p starting the 27th. And then a few days at 2.99. Please share! (Sorry USA, this year it's just UK).
A top favorite thing - introduing 2 soul sisters in MY mind in real life. At Ottolenghi! Pure joy w/these literary powerhouses @deborahzafer.bsky.social of @saloneurope.bsky.social & Lucy Durneen, my great friend & prior #Cambridge MSt supervisor. Talking #poetry & #community & #intuition.
In high school we had a bar called Someplace Nice. In college we had a bar called Father’s Office. Now I’m a full-fledged grown up in a bar called Study Hall. I’m not with a load of drunk pals though… I’m with a good book. And a pen. So there’s that.
I’m very good at finding my next #book for the European Writers Salon book club in fabulous bookstores, but I gotta admit I’m terrible at taking selfies. That’s “I Who Have Never Known Men” by Jacqueline Harpman in front of Pegasus Books in Berkeley California.
YAY! Richard Russo has a new book of essays coming out May 13th, 2025. Ever since I read his 'Destiny Thief' memoir of #writing-related essays, I've yearned for more, more, more... and now he's delivering MORE! LIFE AND ART BY Richard Russo.
Excellent zoom mtg & reading from The Reformatory by @tananarivedue.bsky.social last night for Cambridge #CreativeWriting MSt & public. Tananarive says horror fiction is meant to entertain, to let the reader FEEL fear without triggering a re-experience of #trauma. SUCH a great writer & READER.
Sometimes writing is staring at a screen, typing, typing, typing. Other times it's living your life, doing your thing, maybe thinking hard about the details of it all later, when the impulse strikes. Glad to say I've got a little living in lately. AND I learned how to post a photo. Bonus!
I sometimes used to share my Instagram pics to Twitter… thought this was a good one for BlueSky. It lets you breathe. Sunset in Key Largo, FLA.
#patronsaint. When I was feeling dejected 'cause not everyone gets my sense of humor, #RICHARDRUSSO wrote in his green pen on my ms "so damn funny." Made my world tilt on its axis! Flowers & butterlies & puppies. I love him, his work, his teaching, his whole vibe. His writerly memoir is THE BEST.
Sausage? And one of these, a gift from a Berliner friend. Not too sure what it is! Translation needed.
When your best writer friend is researching Lady Byron, one must have afternoon tea at Brown’s hotel. Lots of literary greats have stayed… Agatha Christie, Mark Twain, Borges & Stephen King who outlined his novel, Misery, while there. Hopefully not inspired by it.
This pic is for @kplumhoff.bsky.social & anyone who’d like to know the 8 books I’ve got on the go right now. Plus audio of Julie Fingersh “Stay.” I gotta see if she’s here on Bluesky too!
