Today’s afternoon reading. Under the house due to rain, but at least I have the AstroTurf!
Trilogies are the lifeblood of genre, and I'm lucky to have both written and published this one. It delights me that readers have found this ending -- across all these characters and plot lines -- satisfactory. I couldn't have trusted the end to anyone other than Basil and Roland... geni.us/GameoH
A few things to note: - The bishop is growing out of the embellishment - The illustrator has drawn an arrow to point our attention to the hare - The hare is SMIRKING - The hare INTERFERING - The bishop is not having this interruption - The text is about the Arc of the Covenant (Psalm 131)!
It’s been a long day, but the sun still sets. And makes a show. This is my favorite time of day: the middle place.
One fashion tidbit I keep thinking about lately is buttons. Do you know how massive button-making was? Before zippers and plastic, mind you, buttons were MADE BY HAND. First appeared in the Indus Valley 2800 BCE, made of shells--and not as fasteners, but decoration. Button holes came later.
Me, faced with another onslaught of “unprecedented times.” (We have all had enough, thanks.)
She may only be 5.5 pounds, but it’s the perfect pressure for after work relaxation.
I am out on the patio where the dogs are no longer allowed. I am a traitor. A scallywag. A heartbreaker. A knave. (Listen, I like my patio sans poop.)
Not sure what list I was on that went out but hello new followers! Here is my goblin cat in a window Not Made For Cats. My writing view…
The farmers market in Greensboro has these incredible bouquets for a mere $20. So beautiful. To me from me.
Also forgot to share because ::gestures wildly:: but my hibiscus mallows are blooming. The landscapers didn’t destroy this one at least, and she’s one of my biggest treasures. Blossoms the size of dinner plates.
I’ve mostly been doing hospital stuff and fretting and in dying parent mode. But I staunchly believe in also finding joy. And I found this incredible Korean cabinet on FB Marketplace for $95. It is a treasure for many reasons.
THE GAME OF HEARTS is out tomorrow from @solarisbooks.bsky.social (who is now part of @profilebooks.bsky.social 🎉) -- and here's the AESTHETIC. Queer, floral, longing, delightful, Regency England. Basil/Roland, Viola/Silas, and Edith/Poppy. geni.us/GameoH Art by @lamalamuerte.bsky.social <3
Sometimes she looks like she might be a statue. Like a statue, her head is pretty empty. (Sweet, but not terribly clever.)
Just a wee reminder as we approach the final week! Queer Regency Romantasy! 💐
What do you do when landscapers decimate 3/4 of the garden you put together for 8 years and it’s the middle of a drought so you can’t plant anything in the ground? Make some containers…
This is who is writing your stories of hidden Arthurian women and queer Regency witches. (It’s also her birthday.)
And at last: BASIL & ROLAND. My boys who pined and yearned for a whole book are central to A GAME OF HEARTS. Enemies to colleagues to lovers to…? The quiet apothecary and the rakish werewolf finding love and possibly also saving England. Again. Art by @lamalamuerte.bsky.social Book out 6/24!
Okay, so first off we have Viola and Silas from THE VISCOUNT ST ALBANS! So dreamy and moody. And a little wicked. I love them. And I love the flowers… Art commission by the amazing @lamalamuerte.bsky.social
Looks like THE GAME OF HEARTS is on the top LGBTQIA+ books on Netgalley! That's lovely. <3
This week’s bake is looking sexy. Alas, with all the hospital visits with Dad, it’s been about three weeks since I managed a loaf. But my starter is a hero. Alas, I cannot share it with you.
Salem has decided that laying down on my legs, head toward my feet under the table, is her preferred method of space invasion.
