Canadian scientists have made it to Svalbard, Norway, and are about to start the 2026 Canada-Sweden Arctic Ocean Expedition.
The Canadian Coast Guard Ship Louis S. St-Laurent is en route from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, to Tromsø, Norway. When they arrive in Norway in August, the science party will begin its mission in the Arctic Ocean.
Last summer, Canadian scientists sailed the Arctic Ocean. This year, they’re doing it again!
Science takes our experts to some remarkable places. 🚢 Last week, NRCan researchers from the Geological Survey of Canada were aboard the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Amundsen off the coast of Makkovik in Labrador. There, they were collecting important information on the ocean and its seafloor!

While satellite imagery can show us remote regions and track surface changes over time, it can't reveal what's happening underwater. In March, scientists from NRCan mapped Antarctica’s seabed using a multibeam echosounder to measure glacial retreat.

As more EVs hit the road, Canadians are wondering if there are enough charging stations to help them get where they need to go. We spoke to an NRCan expert to get some answers. ⚡ Access the map of charging stations here: https://ow.ly/upR150Z4McI
Our experts agree: EVs can help reduce driving and ownership costs for many families too. 🚗 The cost of charging an EV is 5 to 10 times lower than fueling a gasoline-powered vehicle. Find out the facts in this video ⬇️
